Carville GETS IT! And I would follow him into fire. Please read!!
I consider James Carville THE man. He doesn't believe in conspiracies and he doesn't whine about some Boogie Man who hates us and wants to bring us and all of our candidates down via BBV or whatnot.

James Carville is a Realist, he's honest and he knows what he's talking about. No one can deny any of that.

Here is an article which contains many of his observations, and personally, I think we should follow his lead 100% and GET ON WITH WINNING NEXT TIME!

In other words...Enough of the whining, enough of the finger pointing, enough of the conspiracies, enough of the false hope...LISTEN TO CARVILLE AND GET GOING!!!

http://www.washtimes.com/national/20041109-120712-7714r.htm

Democratic strategist James Carville said yesterday that the Democratic Party's losses last Tuesday were no fluke, and that they need to rethink exactly who they are and provide something more than a litany of policy proposals.

"The underlying problem here is, there is no call to arms that the Democratic Party is making to the country," said Mr. Carville, the architect of Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign win. "We've got to reassess ourselves. We've got to be born again."

SNIP...

"We can deny this crap, but I'm out of the denial. I'm about reality here," Mr. Carville told reporters at a breakfast hosted by the Christian Science Monitor. "We are an opposition party, and as of right now, not a particularly effective one. You can't deny reality here."

He said the party is desperately in need of a compelling narrative to tell voters, rather than the "litany of issues" the party stands for now.

He said Mr. Bush and Republicans presented just such a story: "These guys had a narrative — we're going to protect you from the terrorists in Tikrit and from the homos in Hollywood. That's it," he said. "I think we could elect somebody from Beverly Hills if they had some compelling narrative to tell people about what the country is."

Feel free to flame away, but one simple fact CAN'T be denied...

James Carville is our last WINNER!!!

2. Oh geeeeze!
It's starting already...

YES! I realize it's from the Washington Times. But what does that have to do with the comments JAMES CARVILLE MADE??

Good God! We'll never learn.

Sigh.....

5. The quotes are purre Carville, but they reason the WashTimes is publishing
... them is because they are unflattering of the Democratic Party.

IMO, the truth lies somewhere in between. We can't hitch our hopes to a "fixed" election, and abandon Carville's "Call to Arms". On the other hand, we can't ignore the problems of voter fraud and hope that party reform alone will ensure our future.

23. Ok then...Give up.
Better yet...Just join the Greens and ensure you'll never win. Then you can roll your eyes until they fall out of your head. I assume that would make you happy?

The Greens can afford to just bitch and never really try. They never will win, and that's simple fact based in reality.

He puts down many of our Democrats in an insulting manner.

The Times is owned by Rev. Moon, and I think it's purposes should be suspect.

26. Carville has been quoted in SEVERAL papers, not just WaTimes
I've seen so much resistance on DU. Before the election, everyone and their brother was criticizing Dems and Kerry and justifying it as "constructive criticism".

Now, it's against the rules, it seems.

7. I think this has some validity. We need to be a party about equal
rights for all citizens, not just christians. We need to be the opposite, not the ambiguous party: "I'm for gay unions but not gay marriage," party. WTF does that mean? Stand for something or don't bother standing for anything. We should take a stand that we're not liberal when it comes to equal rights, equal pay, and the right to pursue our happiness. The repugs are a party based on hate, fear, and name calling, they are bullies.

8. As long as people like Shrum have influential positions in the party,
Dems will continue to lose.

The Repubs would never tolerate the type of losers the Dems have in such high positions. Think about that.

The Dems have very few Carvilles, and definitely do not have the political equivalent of Rove.

9. sorry, voter fraud needs to be CORRECTED, NOW, regardless of outcome..
its the duty of us as americans, not as democrats, to make sure every vote is counted correctly. If we fail at that, merely because we ultimately lose the election, or "let it go' to move on, we have committed a great disservice to our fellow americans.

11. Ignoring the voter fraud won't make it go away
Should we pin all our hopes on having the election overturned? No. But to ignore it would mean that we won't have another legitimate election in the next 20 years or more, without a revolution.

(the time frame is purely my own opinion)

14. I have not read the article yet
but I am amused at Carville's use of the language

"born again" "litany" "narrative" all have religious connotations and that is exactly what the Bush has done for four years.

15. horseshit
we will be back as soon as the ratio of repuke voices to dem voices on the MSM becomes better than 50:1. That will happen right after *'s america collapses under a sea of debt and combat casualties, so that the fundies in the flyover states become more concerned about feeding their families than about what Bill and his "roommate" Jim are doing next door.

17. Carville is saying
we need to be about more than a series of 12-point plans to solve this or that problem -- that it is not enought o take the right position on various issues.

A candidate needs to put forth a vision that moves people. Bush moved them with fear of terrorism and fear of gay marriage. We need a message that inspires the best in the American people.

That, I believe, is what Carville was saying.

19. I think you're right...
...But I also think he's saying much more than that too. It's a pretty short article, and I'm sure he could go on and on (He said he might be writing a book).

I'm just saying we should follow his lead. He's not a kook, he's not blaming the Boogie Man, and he's not whining. He's simply telling us how we can win in the future. Which, is all that really matters, imho.

"We've got to reassess ourselves. We've got to be born again."

Fuck that, I'm happy with who my Mother is, tyvm, I'm pagan and proud of it! Just where do you think your religion came from anyway, Carville?

His statements are offensive to all non-Christians, in case nobody noticed. It's just this kind of thing that is wrong with the leadership in our party today... alienation.

I don't need a new Father or a warmongering Homeland (Fatherland?) that betrays everything my party has fought and died for over the last 228 years. It's bad enough that he's using rightwing religious allusions in his rhetoric.

31. I'm refraining from...
...name-calling and profanity so I don't get reprimanded...so read between the lines!

That "litany if issues" is what an election is all about! In Kerry, we had a man who was intelligent, capable, experienced, knowlegable, brave and strong. His issues reflected everything we stand for AND WHAT WE WERE VOTING FOR. He was someone who understood those issues and could discuss and explain them in detail. Bush is just short of being brain dead. He didn't do anything but memorize a list of talking points and repeat them over and over again. That so-called narrative was nothing more than playing on people's insecurities...scaring them with terror threats and then getting them to believe that only Bush can protect them. Is that how an election in a democracy is suppose to be won??? Maybe in Iraq, but not here!

If the rest of the free world would have had a vote, then Kerry would have won with about 95% percent of the vote. Why don't you, or Carville, explain that!!!!! The Brits nailed it. It's not because of their ingenious "narrative" or our "litany issues"...it's about the sheer stupidity that is running rampant in this country.

If "re-birth" means dumbing down and using fear tactics to win an election instead of discussing the issues that effect people's lives...then Carville can just join the dark side for all I care.

In fact...I think I'll send him an e-mail telling him to just do that!
