Anyone have new bumper stickers yet??
I'm still deciding what my post-election day bumper sticker will be.

I still like "Proud member of the reality-based community"

Suggestions???

I hadn't planned on making it a bumpersticker, but other DUers suggested it so I guess it might make an impact on the sheeple.

I mean what can they say?

12. Not a whole lot of details really
I should have mentioned that I added a caption below it saying: "You Can't Follow Jesus, If You Choose To Follow Bush."

They look at it, even stare a little closer and (ha ha) one person I caught as I came out of the store today looking intently at the rear window of my car not too close but close enough (I have 6 or 7 other stickers besides), didn't notice me approaching and when I drew close enough I said, "hi how are you?" and he was startled, I asked him, "Pretty much true doncha think?" He muttered, 'uh uh uh well I don't think so' or something like that. But I noticed the look in his eyes and if I were a betting woman, I'd bet he walked away not knowing what he was sure of anymore. He seemed unsettled and I'd like to think that maybe the image will haunt him a bit from now on (enter guilt maybe) At least a while. I can only hope that just one more person will think about and question what's going on.

And gee, not one snarky comment about my anti-bush stickers either:-(
;-) That's a nice switch......hahahahahaha

14. It felt pretty good
Like a small victory. I'm so use to snarky comments about my anti-bush stickers from all the repubs I guess I'd have to admit I was a bit startled myself. The shoe was on the other foot for a change coz after I said hi and that, I didn't know what else to say myself.

I'm so use to being on the defensive being one of those "damn Liberals", I was kinda at a loss for words myself. It was an odd feeling.

22. That is great, RFK2!
I live in an area surrounded by these "end-timers" and I desperately want to reach out to these people. So far, my words have meant nothing but a powerful bumpersticker would reach the masses.

It's impossible to remain silent when my religion has been hijacked by a bunch of fanatics.

56. Indeed I think it's a powerful message that needs no explanation
I believe it's a statement that erases (for the most part) the partisan element out of the equation and goes directly to the core of peoples beliefs and forces them to "question" and look at themselves more closely, rather than their president.

It's hard to argue bush when Jesus is seeing right into you ;-)

27. I have a car that I'm not supposed to put bumper stickers on.
But I went ahead and ordered some of the "slash-W" circles -- W in a circle with a slash through it -- because it's a small with a white background (it's a white car.) It's subtle but I just have to let people know that I am NOT supportive of this idiot.

And I got two new USMC yellow ribbon magnets, one for each side of the car. (The other one I had was either stolen or came off at the carwash. :()

44. Put those /-W stickers on magnets
You can find thin magnetic sheets at Staples or some other office type supply place and cut them to size to fit your stickers. Just remember to remove them before you run your car through the car wash so ya don't lose them ;-)

The graphic Swamp Rat created above I printed out on an 8 by 11 sheet of photo paper and taped it on the inside of the rear window of my car.

5. Can't force myself to scrape off my Kerry-Edwards
bumper sticker. Shudder. There will be one helluva cry fest when that day comes around. Guess I should wait for all of the recounts and vote certifications, anyway. If I slap on a new bumper sticker now, it is going to be mean and nasty and perhaps that is not the best way to make nice at work. I need to pick something subtle, yet "killer" in its subtlety.

15. Does anyone find my Obama bumper sticker idea objectionable?
Irish-Americans for O'Bama

I got the idea from the "Irish-Americans for Kerry" bumper stickers and yard signs I saw while helping with the Kerry campaign in Kansas City.

I really think Obama will run for President some day and wanted to support him with this bumper sticker/yard sign idea but wanted to make sure Dems didn't find it objectionable.

I think it would be a way of injecting some humor into the Presidential race...

Oh, they're dead you say? Well, since many Bush voters strike me as brain dead, maybe we can win a few over by running a pair a little closer to their hearts (and brain status).

And besides, they're BOTH from the South! Aren't there several threads here dedicated to the proposition that we must run a Southerner in order to win???

So I say Long/Long in 2008! :silly:

A good friend reported to me this morning that last night, she was driving her kids home from karate and they all saw a bumper sticker that read: "Liberals - French for Cowards" - and they were offended. Especially considering the nice French lady whose kid takes karate there and is one of the best in the school, plus both mom and son are terrific people and VERY well-regarded.

I wasn't really expecting it to be so popular. Right now it my top seller, on buttons (mostly selling multi-packs of 10) and the color t-shirts or raglans. I've offered to customize it with the name of clinics or reproductive rights organizations, no charge. Anyone know of any to forward it on to, please do.

It's kind of brutal, but everything about this freakin' admin is brutal...I hope it offends the hell out of the righties.

and

in yellow letters on a white background underneath (you can barely read it even up close).

I had a couple suggestions for bumper stickers that I would like to see:

War...stops a beating heart
Capital Punishment...stops a beating heart
Bombing...stops a beating heart
terrorism...stops a beating heart
euthenasia...stops a beating heart

or maybe:

Fundamentalism stops a working brain...
Election Fraud stops a working democracy...
Bush stops a hopeful future...

Original topic on DU: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=2653018#2663076

I will buy as soon as i see them.

78. How Progressives Can Win the Culture War
We are Americans.

We are teachers, lawyers, bankers, and doctors.
We work in factories, warehouses, farmhouses and office buildings.
We attend sporting events, company picnics, church functions, and reunions.
...and we believe we are a united country.

We stand up and sing along when we hear the National Anthem and speak loudly when we recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
We know love and life-long commitment are the foundations of a family.
We honor those who dedicate their lives to serving and protecting our children, our families, and our freedom.
We honor those who gave their lives for freedom by respecting the freedom of our neighbors to live the lives they lead.
We know that God gives us the strength to succeed and the wisdom to know the difference between right and wrong.
We ask our teachers and parents to work together in order to help our children succeed.
We demand a maximum return for our tax investments and believe they should be used for the greater good.

We believe in the American birth-right of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.
We believe in empowering and giving voices to all Americans.
We believe in is both a right and responsibility to speak out where we feel there is injustice.
We believe in the sanctity of nature and that the beauty of America must be preserved.
We believe in cultivating a culture of service where we develop stronger communities built on empathy.
We believe in working hard and embracing progress in order to ensure better opportunities for our children.
We believe in our cultural inheritance set forth by our founding fathers to never be satisfied with the status quo.
We believe in being a beacon of hope and integrity for the rest of the world.

We are hard-workers, free-thinkers and freedom-lovers.
We are Americans.

79. Mine have been stuck on for the last 3 years
Waving American flag that says: "These Colors Don't Run--THE WORLD"

And flag shaped like a peace sign that says "Dissent is Patriotic".

The last time before that I had a bumper sticker on my car it said "Abolish Apartheid". Serious. When I ripped it off the back, I was sobbing with joy. And I anticipated being able to rip these two off after November 2 with the same celebratory spirit.

What a fucking bummer.

85. I'm thinking plain old Bible verses
Edited on Fri Nov-12-04 09:50 PM by Pikku
Just the citation, no text. Make 'em go look it up, and maybe think. :D

(Agnostic/ Atheistic DUers: the following isn't intended to exclude or marginalize you. It's an attempt to apply new testament morality in an unequivocal/ unhypocritical way, using the language and literature that has been (mis)appropriated by the right. My point is that liberal politics are almost completely analogous with the teachings of Jesus in the New Testament; therefore we should not be afraid of claiming the "morals" label.)

How about Matthew 7:20 (know them by their fruits) or 7:21? Or 7:3 or 7:12 or 7:15?

http://www.usccb.org/nab/bible/matthew/matthew7.htm

Then there is Matthew 23. Here Jesus is ranting against the fundamentalists of his time; the Pharisees.

Matthew 23:3-5 says
"but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. But all their works they do for to be seen of men"

In other words, Jesus says to respect, but not to follow, all these supposedly religious, upstanding people, because they don't practice what they preach. They require that others follow a strict and difficult religious path, and don't make any effort to make it easier for them. (Think pro-life/abstinence education here. Think welfare reform.) Then Jesus says that everything the Pharisees do is for show. (Think about the television networks and the "crystal cathedrals" built through fund raising)

It seems to me that the liberal left is at least halfway to Biblical morality. (We could always do more, myself very much included, to practice what we preach.)

The religious right right is nowhere. They neither preach the teachings of Jesus, nor do they practice them. Christianity is all about the word of Christ, but nothing in the "christian right" platform reflects the teachings of Christ. Z-mag had a good "Eyes Right" column that dealt with themes of the right. One of the themes was Calvinism: the acceptance that "Only certain people blessed by God go to heaven. People are born bad (in sin) and if they refuse to behave properly through love, then a slap upside the head in the form of punishment, shame, and discipline will set them straight. The undeserving poor, the weak, the sick, the disabled, have been damned by God, so wasting tax dollars on them is pointless. Material success is evidence of God’s grace. "

:scared:

A comparison of the religious right to the Pharisees might rankle a few people. Rankling might be good. Pointing out examples of Gospel (maybe in the form of bumper stickers) which contradict the Bush line could be very powerful.

The possibilities are endless, just in Matthew alone.

95. A Nitpick (or Correction)
I see some merchandise or bumper sticker suggestions which list the end of democracy as 2004, or list the dark ages as beginning in 2004.

Wouldn't it be more accurate, in retrospect, to date the end of democracy in 2000?

100. Thinking about two
Found one at cafepress:

Frodo Failed.
Bush Has the Ring.

The other I'm compiling from some old bumper stickers. I'm using the W off a W'04 sticker a puke gave me (not knowing how I felt about him) and cutting out other letters to as:

Where's Osama?

I can't do a "don't blame me." In 1992 every other car in my predominantly puke neighborhood had a "Don't blame me--I voted for Bush" sticker. To which I handily replied, "Bush Lost. Get Over It." Oh, the looks were priceless. I'm not giving them that in.
