"watching the cancer eat itself"
that's what morford calls revelling in the GOP's attempted destruction of the country. As usual, I agree with him. The country will survive and come back healthier than ever. In the meantime, with our absence of media presence, we can't do much to quell the destruction, so we are going to have to let it destroy itself. Hide your money and your kids, move to a blue state, read the internet for the truth, grab a bowl of popcorn and a beer, and enjoy *'s self-destruction.

1. I don't think it's going to happen.
Things will get progressively worse, of that I am sure. But, because the right controls the airwaves and the government, people will be brainwashed into believing it's just the natural course of events. No blame for the Repugs. If anything it will be the fault of those obstructionist liberals. Or the terr-ists.

I mean look at the last four years. The Chimperor has been a disaster, yet enough people voted to get him four more. The sheeple are gullible and naive dodos.

3. "Healthier than ever"?
I don't think that view is supported by the facts. For one thing, the republicans are going to assiduously avoid dealing with our most urgent problems, and by the time we ever get back in power, it will be too late to deal effectively with them. I'm talking about global warming and peak oil, primarily. And how are we going to dismantle the corporate stranglehold on our culture that's been allowed to flourish for the past 25 years?

I'd say we also have some work to do ourselves. I'm not sure it'll be as easy as just watching a good movie especially if you find yourself in the unfortunate position of not having a job or having a debilitating disease or being gay or being a woman.

Besides that, we* have some serious restructuring and organizing to do at the grass roots level. Much the same way that the neo-cons did during the early 80's. Time to circle the wagons, set up camp, figure out who among us is most fit to lead, dismantle the DLC, turn off our fuckin' TV's, organize vast grass-roots efforts to spread our message, and start figuring out the best way to deprogram voters who've bought the regressive, neo-con lie, hook, line & sinker.

Other than that, yeah, it'll be a great show!

* - we refers to progressives, liberals, democrats and Democrats, women's rights activists, civil rights champions, Greens, artists, etcetera etcetera. T'wont be easy!

5. I've seen lots of people say that it'll just get better
on it's own, so we can just sit back and watch.

Only problem with that is a history filled with little things like oh...The Dark Ages. It can suck terribly for a very very very long time if someone doesn't do something to change things. And while I might be inclined to sit quietly if I knew that in a year the sun would break thru...I have no guarantee....or even the illusion of a guarantee.

Assuming I have a clue of where things go after my death, I don't want generations to come to look back and wonder who those fools were who could have stopped it at the beginning, but who instead sat quietly on the sidelines. I won't passively submit to the potential of fascism for generations to come.

6. Cancer doesn't eat itself.
It eats and kills the healthy body.

7. Yeah, but if we don't get fair elections, nothing will matter.
We need fair and transparent elections.
