1. Why DU isn't going bananas over this I have no idea...
THIS IS WHAT WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR.

OHIO is key.

A recount is our GOAL.

The Green & Libertarian party candidates are OFFICIALLY requesting one.

They need 110k.

A RECOUNT in Ohio - WHAT ELSE COULD WE WANT?!?!?

Why isn't DU going balistic with this news?

5. I don't see it now...
I see threads about favorite founding fathers, wrong AP photos of Obama and rumors of Arafat having AIDS.

I just feel this OHIO recount should be STUCK to the top of DU priorities - at the very least, have a sticky thread at the top so EVERY visitor to DU KNOWS they can help with an OFFICIAL recount in Ohio.

The deadline to FINISH a recount is December 12?

EVERY hour is precious since you know GOP lawyers will STALL any recount with all their might.

We need this money raised NOW! It's the sense of urgency I'm missing here.

Yes, Green Party and Libertarian Party got together and want recounts.
They need to collect the money!

27. There's an email contact address, you can ask them
I have no way of knowing -- but it's NOT like there's big overhead or anything going on here. No salaries and such.

And in fact, they probably have no way of knowing at this point either. If the Greens/Libs get all their funding directly, they can help fund FL. It's going to be difficult knowing in advance.

29. Whats going on?
This is a direct link to the Ohio Recount Site,no middleman. There is also a graph on the front page that says how much has been collected. They have to have the money by Monday.

Eloriel..is there something wrong with donating directly to this site? I don't understand, everytime this link is posted you come out with a post to give to the other site.

While I think all the recounts are important, to me Ohio is our best shot. The democrats don't even have to take the heat for it.

11. Its over that's why.
When the candidate says it's over, it's over. I have a feeling that the Kerry team had some solid numbers before they declined to ask for a recount. I say save your money for the midterms, it will go to better use there than in some Green/Lib. vote hunt.

12. Missing the point..it's NOT about Kerry..It's about US, the VOTERS
WE are the ones who voted on election day and it's about making sure our time and efforts to exercise our RIGHTS aren't being stolen.

Who CARES what Kerry does - a recount ENSURES our votes are counted, regardless of the outcome.

13. But,
they cost money. And if it will not turn a state, it is not money well spent. OUr money could go to the future instead of the past. Don't get me wrong, if I thought Kerry had a chance in Ohio I would write a $1000 check today. He hasn't asked so I assume its a lost cause, so I will use that money for the future.

19. And now he is sitting on $45 million
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/ap/20041102/ap_on_el_pr/recount_fund_raising

Kerry had about $45 million in leftover money that he could transfer to the Democratic Party for that purpose, while Bush had $16 million that could go to the GOP, the nonpartisan Center for Public Integrity watchdog group said Monday.

Is that the money that was raised for recounts & lawyers?

This pisses me off.

I hope he forgets about 2008.

You have no idea what he is spending now. I believe there are still lawyers in most states ensuring the vote is counted. They don't work for peanuts. Give the man a break.

15. arrgh
I would rather do something that might actually work, like withholding my income tax while the occupation of Iraq is ongoing. THis recount will prove nothing, accomplish nothing, and start nothing. Anything or anyone that could possibly invalidate the results or incriminate anyone in the GOP was shredded, erased, or liquidated two minutes after Kerry's concession speech.

16. Randi Rhodes Said N. Hampshire is the Test Case
Randi Rhodes on Air America said New Hampshire is the test case. She said that there are suspicious irregularities there, and that state can be quickly recounted. She said if the fraud can be proven through a recount in N. Hampshire, then that will throw all the other similar voting counts into suspicion and help to justify wider recounts.

17. Gee, I don't know. What're the odds of Ohio agreeing to do that
on the request by a third party and not one of the main contenders? Why would the Green Party ask for a recount, since they wouldn't win, anyway?

Call me cynical, but I suspect ulterior motives.

18. Laws are laws. OH has to agree to recount.
The losing candidate has a right to ask for recounts, it doesn't matter how much behind he/she is.
So, OH has no right to not agree to recounts.
Now, all the losing candidate (Cobb) needs is money.

23. Check out these numbers from the unofficial results web site.
Edited on Fri Nov-12-04 03:44 PM by Heath.Hunnicutt
The numbers are on
http://boe.cuyahogacounty.us/BOE/results/currentresults1.htm

Consider Strongsville, especially Ward 3:

REGISTERED BALLOTS CAST TURNOUT "non-voters"
WD1 7868 4835 0.61 3033
WD2 11396 7266 0.64 4130
WD3 7806 12108 1.55 -4302
WD4 7735 4916 0.64 2819
STRONGSVILLE 34805 29125 0.84 5680

The first two columns are theirs, the second two are added by my use of Excel.

Here is a map:

http://boe.cuyahogacounty.us/BOE/pollmaps/maps/Strongsville.pdf

From that map, here is the list of Ward 3 voting precincts:

1 STRONGSVILLE CTR JR. HIGH SCHOOL 13200 PEARL ROAD 3A,3F
6 DRAKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 20566 ALBION ROAD 3B,3D,3E
11 EDNA SURRARRER SCHOOL 9306 PRIEM ROAD 3C,3G,3H,3I,3J

Who lives there? This ward is just one of many, totalling 98000 unusual reported votes. With other mathematical possibilities included, the opportunities for a recount in Ohio should be pursued.

28. I donated to the Green party for the Ohio recount
yesterday. Donors can specify on their website that the money goes to the recount. I agree that this isn't about Kerry or the Democrats, it's about democracy in America and making sure our votes counted. We have to know. '

Since it's the Greens, the Libertarians, and Nader who have requested recounts, then good for them. They just need the money to get this going.

So please, if you can afford it -- no matter how small a donation -- join with others in making sure We the People get these recounts.
