Anyone get the feeling the fuse is still burning.......?
In regards to the election? And it could blow up at any minute? This is all just the calm before the storm?

Or will the fuse burn out and everything simply forgotten?

1. my feeling is given our corporate media and passive electorate
that the fuse will burn out and everything simply forgotten. Apparently that is what happened in Florida. We heard about all those voters who wanted to get even about 2000, and Bush actually gains ground in the state.

This country is a democracy, not a dictatorship - we will prevail.

11. Sorry but TANKS IN LA has been debunked. Alternet pulled it. It seems
they were not 100% tanks and they came up from S.D for a Veterans ceremony planned not to face off the peaceful protestors that show up almost every week at the Federal building. While def. a fun story, it is not credible.

23. Maybe -- maybe not -- they "claim" to have been "lost" with GPS
with pinpoint accuracy -- and they went around the block 3 times?

This is sort of a "never mind -- nothing to see".

I was ready to give the benefit of the doubt -- but when I learned about the onboard GPS -- sorry that excuse no longer holds any water.

That was a subtle attempt at sending a message -- when the military is involved -- don't accept their explanation for anything. The military ALWAYS lies. ALWAYS.

and 15,000 cops onthe streets

You tell me why a man who got elected with a mandate needs that level of protection? I know the excuse, I guess OBL is planning something amazing huh? or is our fearless leader afraid of the American People?

9. can't blow over
Edited on Fri Nov-12-04 02:32 PM by m berst
I believe that it is not possible for this one to blow over. The only question is, what form will the explosion take and how soon will it happen?

The best case scenario is that the coup is stopped by an investigation into voter fraud, and a peaceful transition back to a free society starts.

The worst case scenario is that the coup succeeds, and a indefinite period of repression, disastrous war, violence and civil unrest, and economic hardship here will proceed the return to a free society.

Under no circumstances will there ever be a return to normal without an upheaval, and under no circumstances will things remain as they now are. Under no circumstances will the Bush adminstration policies result in stability. Things have gone too far.

Much of the "let's focus on 2006" talk is predicated on the wistful hope that things are still somehow standard normal, despite all signs that we are in the midst of a firestorm the likes of which we haven't seen in America since the 1850's.

This crisis will not glide away quietly into the night. Fail to face it now, and it will seek you out and it will find you.

33. Well, some writers call a spade a spade....
The re-election of mentally- and morally-challenged George W. Bush means the dumbing down of America is complete.

Bush returned to office because an army of brain-dead cretins, their minds turned to mush by years of right-wing propaganda, marched to the polls and exercised what little grey matter remained to pull the lever, touch the screen or mark the ballot to elect anything Republican.

This guy has written several other editorials on the election, all of them thought-provoking!!

Do you really think it matters? After Florida in 2000, is there anything they couldn't get away with? Even after it came to light what had happened in Florida, I was always amazed by how few people seemed to care.

I really believe this country is heading for a huge Watergate-like event.
Although Watergate pales in comparison to this.
I think anyone who thinks this is over is just frustrated by out democratic leaders silence. (I think that will end soon too.)

28. I wish.
I wish the evidence was building. It isn't.

I buy that there is something very odd with vote results. I buy that election systems are hackable and may have been hacked. I buy that Kerry would not just walk away and that he is smart enough to play this discreetly until the right time. I buy that there is no way the demonstrably dishonest, corrupt, blundering administration got 9 million more votes than in 2000. I mostly buy that there is no way many heavily democratic areas in Florida voted overwhelmingly for Bush. I buy that we should be suspicious of the fact that voting irregularities always seem to benefit one candidate.

But this stuff was known three days after the election. And it's not really evidence. There are more and more articles being written about it and some are very compelling and eloquent. But I don't think they present new evidence.

Last week, there was evidence that there was tampering in the NY senate race, when a recount showed that almost all machines gave fewer votes to the democratic candidate than were actually cast for him. This is evidence.

The recounts in NH, OH, FL would provide new evidence. And perhaps Kerry attornies, trying to keep a lid on everything, are privately aware of evidence we haven't seen yet. So, while I'm seeing momentum and publicity building, I'm not seeing new evidence.

22. Still burning, but I predict a lot more smoldering
before anything comes of it. Same fuse that was lit 4 years ago, and still smoldering, no "boom" yet.

I do have faith that we will prevail in the end, but this is starting to look like one more battle in a long, perhaps never-ending, struggle.

Keep the fire burning! It's gotta go "boom" eventually!

26. I agree that we're stuck for 4 more from Chimp
short of impeachment from a repug congress (yeah, I'm holding my breath on that one!) or another run-in with a bag of killer pretzels. But until all the dems move to Canada or wherever, there will be anger and outrage enough to keep the fuse lit. And if things get bad enough, the fuse will eventually ignite. The only thing that remains to be seen, IMHO, is whether it will be an explosion that will shake things up enough to bring about needed change, or merely an implosion in which our anger becomes our undoing.

I'm still in shell-shock over the election. I would rather be pessimistic and pleasantly-surprised than optimistic and dissapointed at this time.

I keep asking and inquiring about a BIG PROTEST in D.C. either right before or right after the Inauguration! It took us 2 years to get rid of Nixon way back when. I can hang forever because I simply won't stand for what has been done!

There's an old saying... Cheaters Never Win and Winners Never Cheat! We got cheated so now we have to forge ahead and show our TRUE Fighting Colors. If we don't this will keep happening over and over!

ONWARD!!
