Clintons may want Ickes for DNC chairman
I guess it doesn't matter what the people think, not that I didn't already know this)

Bill and Hillary Clinton support former aide Harold Ickes for the chairmanship of the Democratic National Committee, the New York Post reported Friday. The former first couple "are battling behind the scenes" to bring about the election veteran liberal political operative Ickes, a former aide in the Clinton White House, into the party's chairmanship.

"This is the first test of whether the Clintons can keep their grip on the party," an unidentified Democrat told the Post. Ickes, an adviser to former New York City Democratic Mayor David Dinkins and the son of FDR's interior secretary, the Post said, helped "arrange stays in the Lincoln Bedroom for big contributors."

"He was the innkeeper when the White House became the Holiday Inn," the Post said, again citing the unnamed Democratic source. Others considering a bid for the post include former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, Democratic Governor's Association Chairman Tom Vilsack of Iowa and former New Hampshire Gov. Jeanne Shaheen, who chaired Al Gore's unsuccessful 2000 presidential bid.

6. It's not like the party has done anything Clinton suggested since '00.
Gore ignored him and the Clinton people only came on board with Kerry in the last six (glorious) weeks of the campaign.

3. Frist of all, the moonie times is hardly a credible source.
Dean is clearly the man for the job.

4. Jeanne Shaheen didn't chair Gore's campaign in 2000
That was Donna Brazile. Shaheen was the chair of Kerry's NH Campaign.

5. I like Ickes. He has a great moment in The War Room.
Everyone's arguing about handmade signs vs printed signs at the convention. They're spending a lot of time debating back and forth without coming to a decision. Ickes says it's a silly issue wasting time, but at the very least, let's make a decision and move on.

They went with the handmade signs. They looked bad. Clinton won for other reasons.

having about signs was a waste of time, but at the very least they should make a decision and move on, rather than waste more time on it or leave people unsure of what to do.

And, psst, Clinton won even though the signs at the convention didn't look great.

Ickes was right.

I like him because he cut through the crap and moved on to issues that made a difference.

13. No, No, No, No,
To Ickes. Yes he's smart. He's also owned lock, stock and barrel by Hill and Bill. He's head of some important Hillary Committee; a staunch Hillary '08 person. It's just wrong.

16. If that's the case, forget Ickes.
No way do I want to see Hillary get the nod in '08.

14. Why doesn't Hillary appoint her driver to head the DNC
Can't we have a DNC chair that is not beholden to the Clintons. McAullife was a Clinton stooge and now they want to saddle us with Ickes. Why not just anoint Hillary as the dem nominee in 2008 and cancel the primaries. I support Dean for this position because he would be independent and work toward bringing more people into the party. Ickes would work 24/7 to support the Clinton's agenda.

17. Ickes rumored for top DNC job
Ickes rumored for top DNC job
BY CRAIG GORDON
WASHINGTON BUREAU
November 6, 2004

Democratic Party insiders say Harold Ickes, a former Long Island lawyer with close ties to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, is being mentioned as a possible successor to the national party's outgoing chairman.

At least one Democratic source sought to tamp down speculation about Ickes, saying his ties to former President Clinton may not make him the best standard-bearer for the party. Ickes also was embroiled in the campaign-finance scandal surrounding the Clinton White House, though he was never accused of any illegality. Also, an Ickes move into the party's top job might be viewed as setting the stage for a Hillary Clinton presidential bid in 2008. Clinton is popular within her party, but some fret she would have trouble appealing to moderate voters.
