I'm Out
I'm a secular humanist and I don't care who knows. I've had it with bible thumpers who characterize me and my kind as the scourge of civilization.

I say, "Bullshit. You bet your freaking ass I've got values and I'll stick by them, too because I'm an American secular humanist. You may have different values but if you want me to give yours any respect then you'd better respect mine."

(Just a rant from the Free State--I feel better already.)

1. Come to the light, Ballmer, come to the light
Kill them with reason. Scare them with honesty.

And, if that fails, get their credit card numbers and visit lots of porn sites.

5. What Is Secular Humanism?
http://www.secularhumanism.org/intro/what.html

Secular Humanism is a term which has come into use in the last thirty years to describe a world view with the following elements and principles:

* A conviction that dogmas, ideologies and traditions, whether religious, political or social, must be weighed and tested by each individual and not simply accepted on faith.
* Commitment to the use of critical reason, factual evidence, and scientific methods of inquiry, rather than faith and mysticism, in seeking solutions to human problems and answers to important human questions.
* A primary concern with fulfillment, growth, and creativity for both the individual and humankind in general.
* A constant search for objective truth, with the understanding that new knowledge and experience constantly alter our imperfect perception of it.
* A concern for this life and a commitment to making it meaningful through better understanding of ourselves, our history, our intellectual and artistic achievements, and the outlooks of those who differ from us.
* A search for viable individual, social and political principles of ethical conduct, judging them on their ability to enhance human well-being and individual responsibility.
* A conviction that with reason, an open marketplace of ideas, good will, and tolerance, progress can be made in building a better world for ourselves and our children.

Sounds much better than what the fundies want.

I am rather distraught over this administration, and as a Christian, I MUST take my belief in Jesus Christ as Savior with FAITH or I cannot be a Christian. It all boils down to the scientific thought behind it all, someone who's totally scientific says, "how can you be a Christian and believe that God (fill in the blank)", but that is the point behind Christianity, it is based on the belief that man, given free will, chose sin, and God sent Christ to save us through the virgin birth, and Christ suffered on the cross, as planned for all our sins. I love Christ!

I do appreciate your thread about what you feel, I am glad I read what you believe. And perk up, 4 years (or less I hope!) of Bushco will fly by, unfortunately, will our rights to choose our own beliefs, loves, dreams, go with it!?

7. and much of what you wrote about your belief I agree with!
and lets be clear - Fundies really make humble Christians question their true intent. It's all about power I believe, and control over others through damning them.
