Dean at Dartmouth: "Where are the works of the Republicans"......
that they dare say they have a corner on moral values?"

I found this article in a Kos diary, from a print version of the CT Valley Spectator. Apparently it is not online. It is about his Dartmouth speech last week. Here a few quotes....passionate and powerful.

SNIP.."Then he lit into the Repugs for claiming to be the moral ones, saying that they use scare tactics about gay rights and abortion.

Dean, sounding very much like a candidate, asked, "But where are the works of the Republicans that they dare say they have a corner on moral values?"

SNIP..."Again hammering on Bush and the Republican party, Dean stated " the history of mankind is littered with the bodies of those who thought they had a right to God for themselves." Saying that history is again repeating itself, Dean said the time to reverse this trend is now.

SNIP.."Then he went after the Dems.

Dean again sounded very much like a candidate in proclaiming "We don't need two Republican parties, and as long as I'm around we won't!...Some say we must move more toward the middle...if we move any further to the middle, we'll fall off the edge of the flat earth", he declared."

This diary meant a lot to me. One of our local Southern Baptist churches this week began challenging the rights of gays....it is the largest church in Lakeland. There was a peaceful protest this morning by other religious groups and those who realize that churches must not play politics...if they do they should be taxed.

Where are the others speaking out on these issues? I am hearing such silence.

6. I'm not a Deaniac but I think he'd make a good DNC chairman
he's got vision and energy.

He also has incredible fundraising ability which is really key to that position as well.

8. I don't think they would reverse it now . . .
But if they DID, and found enough Kerry votes in Ohio, something would happen, like they would send the Bush electors anyway on December 13th . . . .

Can you imagine how pissed 49% of the nation would be!!

I do not believe this fascist-leaning government would give up power, no matter what!! Now we learn Bush is having Goss fire everyone in the CIA who is the least bit liberal . . . . God help us. He will have everything, the Senate, the Congress, the CIA.

9. yea
Dean's a great guy and I respect his views. He would be a good DNC chair although we've got a lot of great candidates for that position. But quite frankly, we need to get our party back to the middle before we start ranting and raving about becoming republican lite or being another republican party. John Kerry got the republican lite label when he was the fucking 11th most liberal member of the senate. I mean the left honestly runs its mouth too much, we nominated a liberal and the liberal lost. We need a centrist and we will definitely nominate a centrist the next time around. I say all this being 100% confident Kerry was the best candidate to pick, and the fact remains, with diebold stealing the election or whatever, kerry almost won this election. Lets get clean elections and lets get our party back into the middle before we start whining about completely irrelevant garbage like our party moving too much towards the right, it doesnt matter what we whine about, its what the voters think, and if you thought the dems were republican-lite this election, the conservative neanderthals who voted in this election certainly didnt when they voted for bush.

I have no words and I suspect your motives in posting the criticism of Kerry.

12. well it IS irrelevant AND garbage
honestly, if the dems keep listening to the left wing of their party, that is all that will be left, the left wing, nothing to the right at all. not even a center. It'll just be the fractious left whining to itself. If you want that, that's fine. It just might happen should the party make the wrong choices in the next 2-4 years.

It is the fact that Dean crossed the party leadership and criticized them...he will not be forgiven.

14. Go more right....lose members bigtime. There are other options now.
Keep your pseudo-Republican party and lose bigtime. Fine with me.

There are enough good organizations forming now that the Democrats will have to listen to those of us with passion.

If you don't want to, fine. Then good-by.

ok, if you're talking about voting third party in any way, thanks for helping the tumors of our political process swell. That reminds me, I forgot to send ralph nader a FUCK YOU card for 2000. We could all have been celebrating al gore's re-election instead but nooo. Enough good organizations eh. Try not to look too stupid in 4 years when we win with a centrist.

I really dont see us losing bigtime when we're a progressive moderate party. Seriously.

19. Are you from the DLC or the PPI or the New Dems?
Do not think you are making any difference to me. I know their form of attacks now.

I was raised in a home of moderation and religion. I have always been a Democrat. I considered it quite proper to always vote Democrat. Now I see this horrible invasion, the destruction of public schools, and the raiding of the security net of Medicare and Social Security.

Our Democrats let it happen, were all for it happening.

Go lecture someone else.

20. pretty sure that was cuz of election stealing
Im not here to say the dems do everything right or that they are perfect. But they havent done anything to raid that security net, the republicans plan to but we plan to stop them. Bottom line. And it's our fault when they UNDERFUND their own initiative? Yea it was bi-partisan but I mean come on, with their majority, are we really going to win any budget battles. This is as much political circumstance as it is incompetence or party trickery.

Of course it is our fault initiatives are underfunded. Of course it is. I never used the words "party trickery", it is just plain incompetence and corporate pandering.

I accept no more excuses.

24. This is exactly how Democrats need to talk about the Republicans..
Tell the truth about them. Let's itemize what they have done for this country. Let's show how much debt we have accrued under Republicans as opposed to Democrats. Let's show what programs they have passed to help the American people. Let's show the unemployment rate under Repubs as opposed to Democrats. They want to play this game. Then let it begin!
