Rice 'likely' to take over for Powell
We are all in such deep trouble.

________
Administration's moderate voice to leave State Dept.
By Corbett B. Daly, CBS MarketWatch
Last Update: 1:00 PM ET Nov. 15, 2004

WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) -- White House National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice is "likely" to succeed Colin Powell as secretary of state, senior administration officials told CBS News on condition of anonymity.

Powell is expected to formally announce his resignation later Monday, though an announcement about his successor is not expected.

In addition to Powell, three other members of President Bush's Cabinet are expected to resign later Monday, including Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham, Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman and Education Secretary Rod Paige.

Attorney General John Ashcroft and Commerce Secretary Don Evans have already announced their intentions to leave the administration. That's six out of 15 Cabinet members to quit.

1. Could there be a worse choice?
Dr. Rice and diplomacy don't seem to fit in the same sentence.

13. Yes. How about Elliot Abrams or Paul Wolfowitz?
I know, it's like differentiating between the various circles of hell, but there are WORSE choices than Rice.

Rice is just incompetent, a toady for the administration. Elliot Abrams and Wolfowitz are both much more sinister.

2. Rice to take over from Powell
The world is really laughing at us now. What a riduculas move, for such a powerful person to be replaced by a-well educated but totally inexperienced combat knowledged person. I bet that move was made before Chaney could stop it.Another -off the cuff- decision made by you kno who.

3. It's a shame
It's sad that we'll be losing Powell. He may have no spine, but he was the only cabinet member with any good sense.
And why is a woman owned by Chevron qualified for National Security Advisor OR Secretary of State?
These sorts of conflict of interest should be illegal.

5. right, cause she's done such a good job as NSA
The National Security Advisor, in every other presidency in the post war period has been an advocate for security, she is an advocate for Bush and Bush alone. I'm sure sh'es brilliant, I'm sure she's capable, but she has been an incompetant National Security Advisor, and I don't hold high hopes for State.

9. Well she has proved she does a very bad job. This should help
I figured out years ago that GOP do not run things well. Maybe top down corp, but Bush could not even do that. Bottom up like a govt. is really out of their pay scale. Rice should go back to her ice skates and scales I guess. Wrong job unless we want the world to be sure we all have IQ of 35.
