Bush looking to "control the government, not just the White House"
Edited on Tue Nov-16-04 01:13 PM by zaj
Our nation is fucked.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A53673-2004Nov16_2.html

Three of the departments will be headed by officials who are White House staff members and close to Bush: Ashcroft is being replaced by White House counsel Alberto R. Gonzales, and Paige is likely to be replaced by Bush domestic policy adviser Margaret Spellings. Both Gonzales and Spellings worked for Bush in Texas. A Bush aide said the goal is to signal a Cabinet "that clearly takes a team approach."

The impact, according to one Republican close to the administration, will be to "control the government, not just the White House" in the second term and to give the president "an enhanced ability to control the broad sweep of policy undertaken in the second term."

1. yikes
"The decision was made to keep Rumsfeld and drop Powell because if they would have kept Powell and let go, that would have been tantamount to an acknowledgment of failure in Iraq and our policies there," one government official said, requesting anonymity to speak more candidly. "Powell is the expendable one."

PRIDE cometh before the fall.

4. It's Called a Dictatorship
The Republic is dead, and there is no force with the ability to bring it back to life. The American people have failed with the duty given to them by the Founders, to keep the Republic.

Bush will get the dictatorship he talked about 4 years ago, and we the people will allow it to happen, but unlike Europe, who had the US
to come to its rescue, we Americans don't have that luxury.

I will say a prayer for the USA, but I don't think it will do much.:(

6. Think of it this way: as a "Rotting Dead Chicken", like Molly Ivins says
"My friend John Henry Faulk always said the way to break a dog of that habit is to take one of the chickens the dog has killed and wire the thing around the dog's neck, good and strong. And leave it there until that dead chicken stinks so bad the dog won't be able to stand himself. You leave it on there until the last little bit of flesh rots and falls off, and that dog won't kill chickens again.

The Bush Administration is going to be wired around the neck of the American people for four more years, long enough for the stench to sicken everybody. It should cure the country of electing Republicans.

I can think of nothing more likely to convince the people not to vote for Republicans again for a long, long time than four more years of George W. Bush."

12. Don't foret the Weimar Republic
There is way too much fear being bandied about for stuff like this not to happen.
Even the Roman Republic lasted only a couple of centuries.

15. Interestingly
The German people did not elect Hitler. Here are the results from the the last free presidential election in Germany:
RUNOFF PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
APRIL 1932:

Hindenburg
53.0%
Hitler
36.8%
Thaelman
10.2%

The social democrats and communists received 63.2%.

Hitler seized total control in January 1933 after appointment to chancellor. The Nazi Party actually lost over 2 million votes in the two Reichstag elections of 1932, ending up at 33%.

8. That early American concept of "checks and balances" was SO quaint.
Let's just burn the rest of the Constitution now and save some time, eh King George?

10. Someone on radio this a.m. opined that Bush will be in charge this time
That the learning curve is steep "for any president" but now Bush knows what he's doing so won't be relying so much on advisors.

Right.
