Constitutional Reform - Initiative, Referendum & Recall
Why can't the Federal Constitution be amended to give people the right of Initiative, Referendum and Recall? Many of the state governments have these reforms already. This would allow people to write their own laws (Initiative), repeal bad ones (Referendum), and get rid of bad public officials (Recall). I'm just wondering if there is any interest in this on a national level. In a time when the entire political process is in the deathly grip of one Party, this may be a way for the people to have an influence over an otherwise unresponsive or malevolent government. If an amendment can be passed for benefit of Arnold Schwarzenegger why not one that benefits all of us? How does one start the process?

1. I agree.
It's not to soon to recall the Bush League, either.

Also: election of the president by popular majority, with preference voting and "instant runoff."

Also: allow naturalized citizens to run for president, provided they were naturalized after the amendment is ratified. As Arnold himself says, it should not be about a particular person.

Anyone for an omnibus amendment?

2. Fantastic
It only takes a 2/3rds vote by both houses and then 3/4ths of the states legislatures must ratify it. Piece of cake. Let's do it!

3. As the gardener said,
"This tree will not bloom for decades." So the proprietor responded, "then we had better plant it right away."
