The U.S. Senate passed an $800 billion increase to the maximum level the national debt can reach:

Not a single Republican spoke during debate on the debt limit bill, reflecting how politically uncomfortable the measure is for them.

Senator Kerry's remarks:

"The United States is operating a borrow-and-spend government, continuously stretched by demands for more tax cuts and more spending," he said. "And when they don't have the money to pay for their choices, they just put the tab on the national credit card and send the bill to our kids."

$8.18 trillion will be our new debt number...and they're the party of fiscal responsibility? RIGHT........
