For as much as we are trained to hate these people, there was a certain mafioso, double meaning, tough guy delivery that George HW was skilled at.

Anyway, I had fun imaging the double meanings in the part of his address:

"Once in office, he was very much an activist president, in the best sense of the word."

which is in NO sense of the word, to HW

"He devoured ideas with an insatiable curiosity and then pursued them with unbounded energy and infectious enthusiasm."

devoured? insatiable? unbounded? infectious? all sexual connotations. I thought that was a subtle jab.

"He was and we saw recently remains a tremendously effective advocate for his beliefs."

Wrong those those beliefs may be...

"He was a little hard on"
"the president during the recent campaign. But in the spirit of being kinder and gentler,
"I have long"
"since forgiven him for that."

2. "He devoured ideas ..."
"... and then pursued them". How can you pursue something after devouring it, unless you have your head up your own colon?
