Truthout.com is showing a picture of a dead American
a young man laying in a house in a pool of blood. It is the sadest picture.

How many of our children are dead now? over 1200? and about 9,000 wounded. 100,000 Iraqis.

And I just read that we are upping the number of troops again because of the increase in insurgent attacks. They will cover it up by calling it rotating in and out.

So many people dead now. And I can't see that much has really been accomplished.

23. If in some smothering dreams...
Edited on Fri Nov-19-04 08:30 PM by demwing
...you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie; Dulce et Decorum est
Pro patria mori.
(It is sweet and glorius to die for ones country)

7. This came from the Sipa Press
I'm not sure where that is - but we would never see this from the American Press.

Someone's son or husband or father. Dead on the floor. I wish they would show these pictures over here. Maybe it would bring home the truth.

I saw last nite that the Pentagon was complaining about the embedded Press showing those videos in Faluja where the marine shot the wounded man.

We may not have any photographers allowed in the war zone soon.

42. I hope anyone that sees this will know the truth...
the gentleman that said it went too far is correct...in so far as how terrible war really is...my uncle Lenard was a medic in WWII and had to pick up pieces of our dead soldiers to send home to be buried...what was left...if anything..the problem with not wanting to see these horrors is human...but to live with the memories as pictured above will take a saints virtue...BUT...

I have to say for the record...Americans need to see the truth...despite how brutal it may be...as a History major...may we that see this...REMEMBER IT...AND...NEVER LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN!!!! Our young troops will never ever be the same naive children they were...

Bring our troops home now!

About three thousand people died in the September 11th attacks, but so many more people are dying because of our wars. People say the difference is that we don't target civilians. I don't care. Dead is dead. And no, we're not accomplishing much. We're just getting our troops killed. Bring them home NOW.

11. I disagree with your premise that the picture
goes too far. What goes too far is the war itself. War is an abomination and an illegal war is worse than that. There is absolutely no justification for that young man to be dead. If this photo brings more to the same conclusion, he won't have died in vain.

Then you'd feel much better, wouldn't you? Too bad. It's real. Deal with reality. Contrary to the doublespeak words of this admin., the world is reality-based. Upset about what you see? Then try to stop it from happening BEFORE it happens and not after it is recorded.

36. denial
never saved anyone-
silence, and hiding the vulgar obscene reality of war and violence is the ONLY way to stop it-

SILENCE and DENIAL kill- every bit as much as bombs and bullets-

That is why the war and abuse had to be brought onto 'american soil'-
it's easy to ignore what is happening to people oceans away- or when they are simply words on a paper, or voices that briefly hang in the air-

Things look alot different when they have a face-
when they are undeniably real-
if we don't want to have to 'see' it, we HAVE to find a way to stop it-

we should be shocked, disturbed, and appalled- for ALL the victims

I grew up during the last bloody days of Vietnam. That kind of stuff was shown on my m&d's TV every evening. the only difference is that it was overseen by quality journalists who knew they had a valuable place in democracy.

They didn't feel the need to "protect" us then.

Edited on Fri Nov-19-04 08:06 PM by WilliamPitt
Is ordering men to die for a lie going too far, or is showing the results of that order going too far.

Pictures tell the truth. Ask anyone who survived Abu Ghraib. Would people have given a crap about what happened there if the pictures hadn't come out? Doubtful.

For the record, it was my decision to run that photo. I stand by it 100%.

Someone has to. Some way, we must show those who voted for our opponents the truth. I am copying it and putting it everywhere I know a lot of people will see it. Its the best I can do in Indianapolis. The press won't do anything about it when I send them a copy and ask them why in HELL they aren't running it. (Ron Artest may be of more importance in Indy today, but I digress). So I'll have to put it on telephone poles and on buses and in Taxis until everyone is aware. You keep printing those pictures Will. And I will keep getting them out the best I can.

Good for you, Mr. Pitt. Else, out of sight-out of mind.

Using the most effective tactics for reaching the American Grand Jury is our only means of survival at this dire time, not just a matter of aesthetics or privacy.

We MUST learn to use the propaganda tactics of effective messaging which the government and its corrupt allies have been using on all of us for decades to bring us to this state of "catastrophic success."

Then we MUST warn our fellow citizens of the neo-con fascist scam perpetrated on them and restore the US Constitution,Geneva Conventions, rule of law, and professional accountability to a revered place in their hearts.

Learn how to warn others that we have a case of corporate parasites on us who are killing us because not enough of us realize this urgent need for a quick change in what we're doing as a country.

1) PHOTOS ARE THE BEST EVIDENCE

I recommend a relentless postering campaign of war dead and injured on every public surface.

Our brains are hard-wired to respond sympathetically with someone else's pain. Photos can speak those thousands of words necessary to cut through the BushCo 'War on Terror' cover story for an oil war.

The blood has already been spilled and merely needs to be shown to the public.
http://www.robert-fisk.com/iraqwarvictims_page1.htm

2) LEARN HOW PROPAGANDA WORKS. USE IT TO SPREAD GOOD INFO
TO COUNTER THE DIS-INFO THAT GOT US AND KEEPS US DOWN.

'BushSpeak' is text-book (1979 US Army Propaganda Field Manual 33-1) psychological manipulation and deception and it is working well on the large number of Americans who are suggestable through ignorance, disinformation, and emotional vulnerability.

Learn what works in language and persuasion technology and use these effective methods to shape people's opinions by countering the harm already done with good information and a clear concise expanantion of the scam told in vocabulary they audience can and WANT to hear.
http://www.fas.org/irp/doddir/army/fm33-1/

I intend to write a comparison to show how Dubya's persona is deliberately crafted to fool his enemy, the American public, with the use of this US Army Propaganda Manual 33-1 and Biderman's Chart of Coercion detailing the eight standard techniques used to break the minds and wills of prisoners. It was compiled by Amnesty International and codifies methods used for years by militaries and law enforcement around the world against prisoners.

The same tactics are used to design the lifestyle of the working American masses to effectively influence their obedience, work ethic, willingness to suffer and kill, and ability or willingness to resist.

Abusive domestic partners and parents use these methods, especially on physically weaker people like females and children.

Micro-cosm/Macro-cosm. Fascism begins in the home within us.

22. The problem is the gov't & media shield the public so much from the facts
of war, that it's not real to the uninvolved public. People should know what the human consequences are of this war, for the troops and the Iraqis. It's ugly. Even in the best of causes (and this is not one of those) there is a horrifying human toll in every war. The maimed, the wounded, the dead. Military and civilian.

They sanitize the war so people will be less repelled by warfare and more likely to support it. People don't want to see it, people don't want to know. Nevertheless, some bit of the reality should at least slip in from time to time. If it disturbs us, it should.

A better place to post them would be in every fundamentalist church you can find. Put 'em in the pews. Put them in hymnals. Put on windshields during Sunday service. Put them everywhere the people with "moral values" can see them when they go to prey on their Jesus.

27. An insane man, with greed and coveting in his heart
Edited on Fri Nov-19-04 09:05 PM by Malva Zebrina
lied to get his way to put our young in harm's way. He called himself a "war president" and was proud of it, even though his own service to his country is full of doubts and dubious claims. He invaded a country that was no threat to us at all, in his megalomania.

We have a country that apparently, the majority of which approves of it. What can we say about that? Nothing but mourn for the direction this man has taken it, and for the cowardly disinterest on the part of those people or the wild nationalsim that causes them to believe the lives of these young are worth it to preserve our "freedoms"

He cannot admit that he made a horrific mistake. He cannot admit to any mistake. He cannot find it in his heart to feel either guilt of compassion for these fallen soldiers and their families, whose death he caused.

They are not important. They are the little guys under his command and if he has to, in order to preserve his own sick sense of ego, will even blame them when things go wrong. He is more interested in keeping up his insane, egotistic pretense of being the cowboy, six shooter "war president" that never makes a mistake, and that he is strong and resolved to continue on.

He is indeed, an insane despot.

46. It is very ugly but
if people are not confronted with it squarely they will not realize what is really going on.

Its easy to sit here, half a world away, and say the war is justified because of this or that. The only way to get b eyond that is to see the truth and be so appalled by it that you are moved into action.
