Wolf: "Clinton does not understand the news media"
"We were just reporting the information that came to us."

He's going on and on about how the media's coverage of Clinton was justified.

Lanny Davis is telling the truth about the whole thing. Blitzer is in denial.

1. Wolf is only there because of a mistake Clinton made
de-regulating the media. Clinton admitted it to Randi Rhodes.

19. Yet they wouldn't report what Paul O'Neill and Richard Clarke told them
and if they did it was always thru the "disgruntled" filter.

I am gald to hear that
because the evidence clearly indicates that a large majority of Americans think that Bill was treated miserably by the media. That's why Clinton's #'s went UP at the height of the impeachment hearings.

3. So journalism is entirely passive, Wolf?
You merely receive what comes to you? And how do you know what comes is truthful???

8. Blitzer did his usual fact twisting by saying that what Clinton was angry
about was the media reporting on the facts re Monica.... in fact, CLINTON WAS MAD ABOUT THE WHITEWATER AND OTHER LIES THAT WERE REPORTED ad nauseum....I never see Wolfie interupt a Republican the way he did Lanny....disgusting!

10. It was disgusting.
I've been off the whole tv news things since the election, but I happened to catch a glimpse of Clinton talking to Peter Jennings. Then I had to hang around and watch Lanny "I'm so glad that George Bush branded me" Davis NOT fight back.
As usual, Davis was weak and ineffectual, and could have put Blitzer on his ass with one line:
If telling the truth is so important that it had to be investigated for six years and cost $70 million, why don't you hold Bush to the same standard?

13. these aren't journalists, they're actors
mere talking heads. Jon Stewart isn't afraid to tell them either. And it looks like Letterman is finally figuring it out, too.

The network fog will soon burn away like a bad nightmare. They will be obsolete, just like betamax and 8-track.

lo and behold, they do or say something that proves me wrong. I have been boycotting CNN since their 'shock and awe' orgasm but do read what other posters say about their decline in credibility to that which is lower than the basest tabloid.

23. He is probably right - they just repeat what the Republicans tell them to
They don't "report" anything, they repeat what the Republicans who own their companies tell them to report.

Clinton and Democrats have begun to understand how it works - there is no reporting, only propaganda for the right. We expected fairness, but the companies that own the media hate the left and support the right so there will never be fairness.

28. Yup, on the one hand they want to be the great fourth estate,
bringing the truth to the masses; however, when called on not doing that job, they turn out to just be amplification machines, repeating what others say, without judgment or analysis.

That means anyone can do that job. Might as well replace Wolf with someone better looking with fewer pretensions.

32. Actually... Wolf's comment is very telling.
Edited on Sat Nov-20-04 10:26 AM by Skinner
And here's what sucks the most about it: Wolf is right. Clinton, and Democrats, don't understand the news media.

Our problem is that we Democrats still cling to the anachonistic notion that the media actually has some sense of ethics. Our party and our candidates believe that the media has a sense of fairness, and wants to act as the arbiter of what is true and what is important.

This is, of course, ridiculous, and it's high time that Democrats start to recognize this. The media has no interest in making those sorts of judgements. As Jon Stewart pointed out, the media's bias is in favor of the most sensational stories. The Lewinsky scandal was completely unimportant, but it was extremely sensational.

We will continue to get our asses handed to us if we do not learn to play the media game. The Republicans know how to hightlight the sensational, the hot-button. Democrats keep thinking that we can win by being honest, and by focusing on "important" issues.

Wolf knows that this is a loser's strategy, and he is saying so. If we learned anything this year, it is that lying is better than telling the truth, because the media is AFRAID to act as the arbiter of truth. Just ask the swiftliars. The media repeated their lies, precisely because LIES ARE SENSATIONAL. But the media did not feel that they had any responsibility to discern truth from falsehood.

LYING. It's the wave of the future. And no, I'm not joking.
