Hello DU! I AM BACK IN THE GAME AS OF RIGHT NOW!!!
Edited on Fri Nov-19-04 08:58 PM by matcom
Note: this thread is for ME. This is MY purge and something I MUST do. Sorry if this is long but it is for MY benefit and MY "therapy". - THANK YOU for giving me this forum to vent.

------------------------

OK. Here we are. The election was BRUTAL for me personally. No secret. I posted a couple of threads saying I was "taking a break". Well, that break is over. It was a LOT shorter than I had planned (much to Mrs Matcom's dismay I am afraid).

I do not know quite where I go from here. I am hoping and COUNTING on YOUR help. I have been 'soul searching'. My progressive life attitudes cannot be turned off. We are in a time of great turmoil. We MUST prevail.

Over the last 4 years I, along with most of YOU have written, emailed, spoken up, marched, converted, persuaded, handed out flyers, etc..etc..etc..

I took a break from that on 11/03. I HAD to. In a way, I am sorry for doing so but "it is what it is" as I like to say.

No More.

NO F*CKING MORE!!

I am back. That should mean exactly NOTHING to ANY of you except that we need to fight MORE THAN EVER. Yeah, we thought we had it but guess what? We didn't.

*****flame bait starts here********

I have NO time for recounts, voter fraud, BBV, etc... if YOU are into that, GAWD LOVE YOU. Keep up the fight. I IN NO WAY think this was a fair election but sorry, I don't believe the result is gonna change. I CANNOT AFFORD THAT, PERSONALLY, EMOTIONALLY

I know there are MANY of you hard working at the obvious. PLEASE do NOT take my words as "a waste of time or a frugal effort". That is NOT what I intend. I am simply preparing MYSELF for the next 4 years. I do not have the strength you have. I, personally, MUST plan ahead. It is MY way. GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU IN THE FIGHT

so. what do *I* do?

my Liberalism is ON FIRE. more than it EVER has been. It might not even be healthy (I do not know). But this I DO know:

I will FIGHT against this UNJUST WAR
I will FIGHT for health care for ALL
I will FIGHT this misAdministration (who I STILL believe should have NEVER been put into power in the first place)
I will CONTINUE to EDUCATE (yes, Boston DUers, our "Flyer-Drives" are BACK IN BUSINESS!)
I will FIGHT to keep our freedoms intact.

THIS I promise everyone here and everyone who doesn't give a damn out there in the world. I WILL FIGHT FOR YOU!

I cannot give this up. We do NOT have the time.

*********** More Flamebait Here ***************

I will NOT get into "WHAT" could have been or "WHAT" should have been with candidates/platforms/etc...

that is utter BULLSHIT

we are the "HERE AND NOW" and we MUST protest. we MUST make a difference. we have NO CHOICE!

so, here *I* am. back in the game. I will work for PROGRESSIVE values (NOT DINO CANDIDATES).

I am a PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRAT. I will CARE ABOUT OTHERS LESS FORTUNATE THAN MYSELF. I will PROTECT MY ENVIRONMENT. I will PROTECT THE RIGHTS OF OTHERS.

If you are a "DINO", you have 3 years to get out of my way. If you are a Repuke, you KNOW where you stand with me.

I HAVE THE POWER TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND YOU BETTER HEED MY CALL!!

i remember Paul Wellstone. I want him to be proud of ME tonight.

i KNOW he is proud of YOU.

thank you all for letting me vent. sorry i fell away for a while. i hope you understand.

11. I totally understand
but tell me one thing. It's something I've been struggling with myself. It concerns this:

I have NO time for recounts, voter fraud, BBV, etc... if YOU are into that, GAWD LOVE YOU. Keep up the fight. I IN NO WAY think this was a fair election but sorry, I don't believe the result is gonna change. I CANNOT AFFORD THAT, PERSONALLY, EMOTIONALLY.

I could not agree with more that the results of this election are practically impossible to change.

But if you really thing this was "in no way a fair election", and if you really think, as you stated in your "going on a sabattical" post, that those who claim the election was stollen are "a 100 percent right" -- as I remember -- then the logical conclusion is that the progressives will never win any real political power in this country as long as the BBV issue is not attended to. Flyer drives, speeches, policy definitions, framing the debate, everything, is pointless if the votes are not counted.

IF there was massive election fraud in 2004, it isn't just an issue of this particular election; it's a systemic issue that concerns any and all future elections.

Please understand I'm not lecturing you or chiding you. Frankly, I'm trying to get to the mindset where you are, but I'm not finding my way. If you can, help.

20. So what you're basically saying is...
...the war cannot be won without the infantry, but you choose to join the air force.

The choice of infantry/air force in the analogy was random.

Am I right?

25. Wildfire fighting
More than flank them. Fire lines, retardent drops, back burns, structure protection. Yep, have to hit them from more than one direction, BUT we have to coordinate the attacks so we all know what we're doing and are on pretty close to the same page while attacking. I don't think we had that this year.

16. I agree with you, matcom.
We must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and get ourselves right back into it!

I have been doing some soul searching for myself (I think we all have at some time since 11-3). For me it has meant questioning my religion and the direction I want my life to take. This has left me with an unbalanced feeling. It will take some time to really figure things out.

Welcome back and let's get ready to kick some major butt!

:)

18. What He Said!!!!
Well put, Matcom. Kind of describes my feelings...it is so very hard to put into words, but something in me felt like it died on 11/2. I still feel very empty, but am starting to feel the flames of rage.

As a member of the gay community, I have been having a very bad feeling since the election. Damn, the right wingers are moving fast. The really sad part is that I am a Christian, and it pains me to see my religous beliefs so perverted by these people.

You and my 82 year old Dem leader!

To your list, please please add,

mail-in voting. Paper ballots. No lines. No obstruction.

Registrations with carbon copy receipts. Signed by the person doing the registering with the name of the organization. Any organization doing voter drives must keep names and signatures on file, maybe even submit them to the state election commission.

Have to fix this voting too.

30. Good to see you back in action!
This election was brutal for us all, and a few days off were a needed thing, I'm sure... I did much the same thing myself, but that is my usual pattern for after elections--win or lose.

You are dead on when you invoke the image of Wellstone and talk about hanging on to your progressive ideals. I've been pissed at the Dem party more than once, but I have NEVER been able to abandon the core values that make me a progressive.

I look at guys like Obama (and he IS in person exactly what you see on TV) and I have a very real optimism for what we all can be and for what our nation can do. Just as Wellstone had a vision, so does the new crop of progressives and Dems.

Additionally, there are guys like Dick Durbin who loved Wellstone a great deal--and THEY are doing all they can to honor him (and our entire nation) by working for the progressive goals Wellstone typified.

Those are ALL things that give me hope.

Seeing you back again gives me hope too!

Laura

35. Glad to hear that you're fired up
but I have a question; what, specifically, do you intend to do to "fight"? I hear a lot about standing and "fighting" the good fight on this board, but no one elaborates on what exactly they intend to DO.

The people working on voter fraud are fighting, no doubt about that. I've been working on this effort: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=255
and continuing to try and educate the repugs in my own family about what's really going on. I still write letters to the editors and the media, along with their sponsors. That's what I'm doing to "fight".

What about everyone else? What's the plan?

38. God bless Matcom
My emotional track parallels yours.

My view: for better or worse, Kerry is our leader for now. He's asking us to make the push on health care for children. So that's where I'm going to put my energy.

Whatever his failings as a candidate, he would have been a great president, and he's asking us to follow him on this clearly important issue.

So that's where I'm putting my energy and time.

For now.

But again, thanks for your honesty and your soul.
