Jesus wouldn't be president-elect if we had run him
The Republicans would have called Him a "sissy" for not supporting the war in Iraq, Rove would have sent out a "Original Christian Apostles for Truth" group who would have asked questions about whether He was really crucified, and the Christian Right would have mobilized everyone to vote against Him on "moral values" issues, which no doubt would include the right to have a gun so you can kill people you don't like on a whim.

2. Only slightly "over the top"
I own a gun and I don't do that with mine.

I usually use a basball bat.

3. Yeah, my point is that
all the so-called "moral values" are not moral at all.

It's sad but true.

15. And Judas would be their O'Neill
Edited on Sat Nov-20-04 12:56 PM by merh
and they would have ridiculed that silly stance, "love thy brother as thyself" that he said was so important and they would have alleged he was one of those dangerous gays. I mean afterall, he traveled around with a group of men talking about love. Only women he knew was his mom and a whore.

7. Absolutely; please help us remember this.
The repugs hijacked Christianity and warped Jesus into a weapon of mass destruction. It's like "The Patriot Act": doublespeak.

This is not who Jesus is or was.

I will continue to refer to myself as a "reborn atheist" for political reasons until catbert836 and others have made it possible for me to stop doing so.

On the positive side, having my faith stolen was probably one of the major catalysts in educating myself about the current apocalyptic political solution as I always considered myself too poor, uneducated, and powerless to do much more than cast a vote.

Am I just one weird individual or am I a typical example of a demographic group?????

9. If you ever want to get back into Christianity
I recommend the Liberal Quakers. Don't try any of the other big churches, especially not the Roman Catholic church, or any Protestant or mainstream Orthodox group. And I'm sure it's quite common for people like you to be fed up with Christianity. I know the feeling myself.

10. Paul would have been the better choice for them
He is who screwed it all up for Jesus in the first place. Paul- modern day freeper, taking the good things and twisting them for an agenda.JMHO.

13. Yeah, St. Paul set the example for modern Christianity
and his "sainthood" should be taken away. Doubtless, Christianity wouldn't have survived very long if it hadn't been for him, but he warped the message so much it wasn't worth it.

16. maybe you should read more Paul than you have
I find lots of liberal like to attack Paul, when they fail to understand he has writen a lot more than a few verses about Pederasty.

He also wrote the following:
***************************************************

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay,"says the Lord. On the contrary:
"If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

19. As an ex JW, they always quoted him
when they wanted the women in the group to be subservient to men. So I suppose I am a little biased.

I just think his agenda didnt always match Jesus'. I am no longer Christian, but have no problems with those who do. Paul just reminds me too much of my dad.

20. Paul was a fanatical Jew
Edited on Sat Nov-20-04 01:28 PM by thinkingwoman
Who fell and hit his head and claimed he saw Jesus. He then became a fanatical Christian. Absolutely the first evangelical freeper type.

He never knew Jesus personally and he did warp the message that Jesus was delivering.

edited for typo.

11. A Middle Eastern man speaking out against the war,
preaching feeding the poor, housing the homeless, healthcare for all, and attacking the money changers? He'd end up in Gitmo!

17. He would have been called SOCIALIST!....He believed in giving to the poor
and forgiving people, rather than killing them...If he were here today, the right-wingers would have branded him "liberal" (that baaad word) or "socialist" (even baaader word)!

18. No, right now, a "soshalist" isn't as bad as a "librul"
and GWB would say: "Look, Jesus. You are way on the left bank of American politics" during the debates.
