Democrats' Choice: Dig in or Work With GOP (duh!)
WASHINGTON - Outpolled, outmaneuvered and out of power, Democrats are suffering an identity crisis.

They could dig in for the long haul as an opposition party similar to many European semi-permanent parliamentary models, and espouse popular positions without worrying about governance. Or they could try to reach across party lines in hopes of achieving accommodation with the Republicans for the public good.

There are pluses and minuses to each approach, and finding a happy medium will be difficult.

"Once they get out of the fetal position, which is what they're in right now, the Democrats in Congress are really going to have start catching the pitches that are thrown by the president," said Ross Baker, a political science professor at Rutgers University.

2. Getting out of the fetal position...
Is the first step. We need leadership. Step up, pretenders to the throne. Let's see what you got.

7. Easy choice
1)Filibuster virtually everything in the Senate

2)Introduce embarrasing amendments they will vote down in the House and then use those votes against them in 06 and 08.

3)Clog the Committees

4)Use floor debates constructively

5)Go to the People to defeat unpopular bills

6)Don't show up and make them ALL show up to get a quorum.

• "Dean Dozen" candidates were elected to state legislatures in 16 states. Candidates for legislature who received Democracy for America contributions, but were not part of the "Dean Dozen," were elected in an additional 12 states.

• Democracy for America played a large role in regaining several legislative chambers for the Democrats, including: the Colorado House and Senate, the North Carolina House, the Oregon Senate, the Vermont House and the Washington Senate. DFA also helped secure a tie in the Iowa Senate.

11. Dig in or work with GOP? No-brainer choice, IMO
They start working with the GOP, they're doomed. The GOP will blackmail them further and further with threats of 'unpatriotic', get more and more of their odious legislation passed with the help of spineless dems, and still paint them as unpatriotic before the next election. The Dems need to say no right now, and take the consequences. It's better in the long run.

12. Damn Straight!
This is the way it works, once they are sure of total control, they begin to make the clueless and the opposition complicit in their foul deeds. Works like this:

"I didn't hear you yelping about equality and the common good when I got YOUR son a deferment."
