Inaugurate our own President.....
There are those who are going to DC in January to protest the inauguration. For those of us who can't, we were thinking we could hold little inaugurations of our own around the nation. The idea is to detract from the inauguration of Bush. Who to inaugurate, you ask? Well, ideas have ranged from potted plants to pets to stuffed animals. We're thinking of making it look real and presidential complete with a speech, red carpet, secret service agents (children dressed in black) and a black car or two.

But even if details are different, (such as who/what to inaugurate) the idea is the same- disrespect toward the sham inauguration that will take place in DC on January 20th. It says, basically: I'd rather have ___ as my president, ____ represents me more than Bush ever could, I don't recognize the inauguration of Bush as worth attending or watching.

This is a half-hatched idea right now- just looking for comment and for people to build on the idea if possible. Thanks.

1. it sounds really cool
But I just think there may be to many plans and you guys gotta work together. There are so many ideas here and then 10 people reply and that seems to be it :s I don´t really know what´s going on in America, but are you guys really co-operating? I really hope your plan will work, because it sounds really really cool!

3. It's just something we're thinking about doing here...
where I live, but it could work in other places too. Not necessarily a "DU" action, just looking for more ideas, ya know? We can pick and choose which ideas would work for us, and others can pick and choose which ideas might work for them wherever they are.

Thanks- I'm glad you like the idea! :)

4. I know what you mean
but I talked with a friend a few hours ago and she said: the american people could accomplish so much if they just really started working together! thousands and thousands of them with just one goal. At first I thought: well yeah... would it matter that much? But now I see this great idea, and I´ve seen some other great ideas on this site, but to me it looks like... there are too many ideas and maybe my friend was right and you could accomplish way more by starting co-operating. Your plan is cool already, but imagine what it would be like if a huge part of America all around your nation would do the same. would have quite an impact if you ask me :)

Sometimes organizing liberal thinkers is like herding cats, ya know? :) Maybe someone here who sees it can take it and run with it, you know, start a website, organize a nationwide action. I just can't really do something like that without quitting my job, ya know?!

6. just wish anybody would come up with one good plan
or a few good plans and take some real action. And I know many of you have better things to do, and jobs to go to and stuff. Another great reason to have a lot of back-up ;) Maybe you could start a thread if someone has a really really good idea which could work all over America. Just a thought. Sorry if I annoy you. I´m just kinda obsessed with that bastard being your president and there is NOTHING I can do :(

7. Not annoyed at all-
Maybe at the fact that I can't quit my job and work fulltime doing what I love- that's annoying, but I like your ideas and I get your meaning. It's not that my job would classify as "better things to do" because I view my work against Bush as "better things to do" than the mind-numbing computer work I do at my job! The frustration you're feeling is something I am VERY familiar with and can appreciate completely. Hang in. There is actually plenty you can do, you just have to find the place you do your best work, ya know? If you want to re-post this idea in another forum you think would get noticed more, please go ahead! Honestly, I want to share this idea too. So if you spread it, that will be doing something. The common thread between actions could just be "Inaugurate Our Own President" and each individual group could decide what fits them best regionally or whatever. :)

11. Whatever we do, may I suggest a goat as a replacement for *?
Every Dem and half the world would get that one. Even OBL!

As for the idea itself, I love it. If we have to have an inauguration, having our own, all over the country, is a wonderful suggestion. The more cities that participate, the more people involved, the bigger the chance that the media might actually cover it. OK, I know that last part was fantasy, but heck, you never know. lol?

13. Do it! Send out press releases -- and video tape the event
I like the idea of having a goat as a stand-in for bush -- it is traditional for the outgoing inhabitant of the white house to be at the Inauguration of the new Prez.

Have a virtual -- streaming event on the Internet -- and Inaugurate the guy who really won -- Kerry. Who cares if he doesn't show up -- have a stand in for him!

14. Here's the Inaugural Theme Song
Bush Inaugural Theme Song

(to the tune "What a Wonderful World" by Sam Cooke)

Don't know much about history.
Don't know much foreign policy
I don't know the names of men I kill,
Or implications of the seats I fill.
But I do know who has paid my way.
For corporate interests and the NRA
What a wonderful world this will be.

Dont know much about ecology.
Cutting trees has always worked for me.
And I dont know about the womens vote,
And I cant think of any bill I wrote.
But there's one thing that I know for sure,
If the rich stay rich and the poor stay poor
What a wonderful world this will be.

I never claimed to be an A student,
But I dont have to be.
If you have deep pockets and sell nuclear rockets
Youre a friend of my family.

Don't know much about air pollution.
Don't know much about the Constitution.
Dont care much for solar energy.
Theres nothing in it for my friends and me.
And if we cant find any on our soil
We can go to war and get more oil, and
What a wonderful world this will be.

Dont know much about the driving rules.
Dont know much about the public schools.
Dont know why the inner cities fail
Why cant folks get dad to pay for Yale?
And if the issues causing you to lose
Are never covered in the evening news,
What a wonderful world this will be.

I never claimed to be an A student,
But I dont have to be.
If you have a brother whos the Florida Governor,
The results no mystery.

Don't know much about history.
Don't know much foreign policy.
Dont know much about the national debt.
I never had to pay one off yet.
But I do know who has paid my way.
For special interests in the USA
What a wonderful world this will be.

16. snack foods for justice, pretzel protest.
ok, this is my first post

<everyone claps>

thank you. one week after the election, i was drowning my sorrows in scotch and the conversation naturally turned political at the bar. during an awkward pause, i slurred "d'y'know what I'D like to do, I'D like to send a BIG truckload of PRETZELS to that MORON and have them dump it on the white house lawn." some people chuckled, some people didn't get it (superbowl, choking, black eye- you people all know...) and my roommate said "let's do it." So, pretzelsforthe prez.com is under construction and we need everyone to come together for this.

i did some research and the french actually tried to do this when all that "freedom fries" nonsense went around, but nothing really came of it.

the details are being sorted out right now, but i wanted to let you du-ers know in advance, spread the word, we can do this. we are generating some media interest, and any proceeds are going to verified voting. any advice that anyone could give, please, let me know. we need your support. this is democracy; choke on it, baby.
