Meet the Press: Tim starts off naming those running for president in 2008
It's no wonder there is usually a small turn out for American elections!...I could not believe my ears when I heard Tim Russert start off his show this morning by saying...."John McCain, Hilary Clinton...etc...etc..etc.....the race is on for the election in 2008!"...For heaven's sake....does the electioneering never stop?.....I wonder if the American public doesn't just tune out politics for this reason.....In my country and Britain, the campaign lasts about 90 days and then the election.....Nobody campaigns until 90 days before the next election....Similarly in most other European democracies.....It really seems non-stop in the U.S.A....Am I wrong?

1. Unfortunately... you're not wrong.
Except that most people in American, who don't make their living by being pundits, pretty much ignore politics except in the month before the election. Then they only tune in for the horserace excitement of it all. It's not about ideology; it's about competition.

5. It's also not about
America, democracy, justice, reason, truth, "values", a working system, a free press, or any other important thing known to man. it's just a beauty contest for ogling pundits to vie for salary justifying attention.

Meatball, the Press.

3. I think in this country

it's more theatre than anything else. It's all a big show.

At this point we don't even know if our votes are legitimately counted so it quite literally is a big scharade.

4. You are correct.
It probably is a turnoff. Actually, I'm sure of it. I have blacked out the news for this reason. Tim Russert has annoyed me for the last time. Just before the election.

6. well, a lot of that has to do with
the fact that Bush is still president. Had Kerry won we'd all be talking about what the next four years are like.

Now that we know we're stuck with Bush the only thing sane people can do is look 4 years into the future and wonder who will be our next president. Because anyone, republican or democrat who gets elected next, will be better than this moron.

7. Tiny Timmy is paid by the word
and accuracy has no bearing on whether he gets a big fat bonus!

Sincerely wish that these pontificating pundits came with some statistical accuracy numbers next to their inflated heads/hair so those less informed would be on the path to informed on who is giving correct information.
