Do REDS approve of Bush buying himself a YACHT with their money?
Edited on Mon Nov-22-04 12:00 PM by Stephanie

How do the REDS justify this purchase by their just-a-regular-guy hero? Are they aware he just used their money to buy himself a YACHT? If not, how can we make sure they hear about it?

Congress Approves $388B Spending Measure

<the bill includes>

- A potential boon for Bush himself, $2 million for the government to try buying back the former presidential yacht Sequoia. The boat was sold three decades ago, and its current owners say the yacht is assessed at $9.8 million and are distressed by the provision.

Now tell me again - who's the elitist?

4. Sure; just think of it as a floating Crystal Cathedral
You wouldn't want our national spiritual leader paddling around in some skiff, would you? The glory of god demands a fine vessel for his earthly king.

Junior's the Jim Bakker of presidential power; I'm sure many of the fundies want their king lookin' sharp. Besides, if you don't give him lots of money, you don't love god.

6. Palace of Versailles
Remember the Palace of Versailles? It's a magnificent edifice indeed, but outrage over its cost was one of the many triggers of the French Revolution. So, I say screw them - let them have their presidential yacht, and their deficit. Hell, they can move the capital to Houston for all I care, complete with a solid-gold replica of the Taj Mahal for Bush to live in. Because the more they spend, the more pissed off people will get - and that's a good thing.

Think of it this way: this, if nothing else, completely debunks the notion that the Repugnicans are the party of fiscal responsibility. From this point forward, any time their apologists break out that tired old canard, we've got the Sequoia to rub in their faces.

8. $2 million for the yacht. $25 million for security so AWOL feels safe.
What a sitting duck! They will have to send up F-16s on combat air patrol, launch military helicopters to patrol the shoreline, send in SEALs to check out the port, dispatch Navy SWIFT boats (too ironic) to shut down and secure the Potomac, and stop flights in and out of Washington National airport whenever the AWOL Bastard wants to take a little boat ride.

Oh, the captain he rides in his rowboat,
the crew, they ride in their gig.
It don't make a damn bit of difference,
it just makes the old bastard feel big.
Bless them all, bless them all, bless them all,
the long and the short and the tall ...

9. Question for those of you who know
Is it normal for a budget like this to pay for State or local courthouses?

According to this article, $60 million goes to NM for a new courthouse in Las Cruces. Can't NM afford to build their own courthouses?

10. Of course they approve!
Bush has a man date from the smartest, most well-informed, most tuned-in electorate ever, and if you say they missed the boat (no pun intended) on what re-electing Chimpy really means in real-life terms, you're just an elitist, ivory tower egghead, being condescending to the good folks who are the true Americans of the heartland. Why doncha go back to France?

12. Freepers only bash with it's about Kerry's yacht
don't you know that everything is ok if it's a rethugs

Guilani can have mistresses in the governor's house, divorcing his wife over that slut. But Clinton is evil for getting a blowjob, but in the end doing right my Hilary, saving his marriage.

Chimp isn't elite for buying a yacht, with our money, but heaven help Kerry for buying one with his own money.

God damn, if bush** wants a boat that bad, fucking spend his own fucking money.

fucking hypocritical freepers.

13. they don't care
they either already know the "conservative" and "moral" stuff is just bullshit of convenience

OR

they don't care as long as he makes them think he's a bible thumper like them and will do something to end abortion and impose prayer in schools

OR

they are too stupid to know anything at all.

It's all about power. It has nothing to do with ideology or consistency.

16. This country is turning into
haves and the have nots. Why don't the shrub supporters realize they are being royally screwed?
Morals can't be inforced by the government and people in power will use and manipulate them to get what their selfish needs met.

This administration is not concerned about the future of America they are concerned with their own net worth.

17. Fiscal responsibility
IMO, the Democrats could make huge gains by pointing out that the Republicans have made a mess with our budget. Iraq and the billions we've spent there (with more to come), tax cuts, the inheritance "death" tax (a huge pet peeve of mine, squandering the surplus, and the list goes on. I am far from an expert, but would guess that economics could help offset some of the moderates who went GOP for "moral" reasons.

The Versailles comment was spot-on as well. I don't see too many rancher, man of the people types sailing around on a yacht like this, not to mention the hypocrisy of criticizing Kerry for his yacht.
