2. Nope, can't do it.
I don't want him in that job. I want him on the outside, raising hell, kicking ass, taking names, and running and getting elected as the next Dem President.

6. Run, Howard, Run!
I agree. I'd rather see Dean as president, and one of the requirements for accepting the DNC chair is foregoing a run for the oval office.

7. Could he serve as DNC chair through the 2006 campaign, and then resign
...so he could prepare for 2008?

Honestly I'm torn here. We need to get this party back NOW and I don't see anyone else capable stepping up. Yet he's also the man we need in the White House.

Makes you wish cloning was possible, doesn't it?

Problem is that without a DNC chair like Howard Dean, we have no chance in Hell of a 2008 candidate like Howard Dean :(

10. How about Joe Trippi?
Supposedly not. Besides it takes more than 2 years to gear up for a White House run. Why not nominate Joe Trippi for DNC Chair and Howard for President?

8. I've signed on to this one and the DraftHoward.com site too
Let me repeat this again since there is still bad information out there about Dean taking this seat and also running for President in '08. Howard Dean was in Austin over the weekend of Nov 13-14 and he had breakfast with some of the Democracy for Texas (DFT) people. Fran Vincent one of our DFT leaders who had breakfast with Howard asked him about this conflict. Dean told her that was a misinformation. There is nothing to keep a sitting DNC chair from running for President. You do what anybody else does when they have a conflict of interest in this situation. You give up your DNC job. Simple as that. That being said however, Fran said he had not made up his mind to seek the job. He was still evaluating what to do.

No one tells Howard Dean what he can and can not do. He's his own man. The DNC, the DLC and certainly not the beltway and Washington pundits can stop Howard from seeking either or both jobs.

We want Howard! We want Howard! We want Howard!

11. Ok, you convinced me.
If Howard said he can do both, that convinces me. Media inaccuracy strikes again. I'll sign!

9. I wasn't a Dean supporter in the primaries ...
Edited on Tue Nov-23-04 09:46 PM by welshTerrier2
but it's more than clear he's exactly what the party needs ... he's building the grassroots organization, the media love giving him air time, and most of all, the guy has panache ...

in spite of the common wisdom, it is not clear to me that taking this job will prevent Dean from running for President ... and even if it did, have enough faith in the guy that he'll choose the role in which he thinks he can add the greatest value ...

those who supported Dean, and those who didn't, should consider signing the petition ... otherwise, we're going to get stuck with a no-name fundraiser type like McCauliff ...

stop focussing so heavily on '08 and start focussing on what we need NOW to be viable in '08 ...
