Ultra right-wing friend of mine appointed to Federal bench. He has AIDS.
He is a big right-winger and it paid off. He is now a Federal Judge, appointed by Bu$h. He has AIDS, and I doubt Bu$h knows that. He had an operation for retinal cancer in the early 80s. He bled real bad and was transfused. Ended up, he is Factor-8 deficient.

We went tarpon fishing with a guide off Hommosassas, Florida in 1996. On the flats, with a pod of 'toons running us down, he had a stroke. I thought he was dead. The guide put the pedal to the metal and met the ambulance at the dock. A few hours later he was in a Learjet being medivaced to Washington, DC. It was all AIDS related.

In fact, he claims to be the longest survivor of AIDS. I hope so. He was a Marine at Quang Tri in 1968. He deserves a break or two. Too bad he is an activist right-wing judge now.

1. What a bizarre and sad story!
Is this appointment recent?

5. My learning of the appointment is recent.
His wife called. Sounded like it was very recent assignment. They are living in a hotel in that Florida city. She hates it down there. She called to get info on North Carolina.

2. Yay.
So, in the midst of his battle with AIDS, he has not learned a little compassion? Gained a little wisdom?

You know, hoss, I feel sorry for him. Seriously.

6. I do too, TS.
He taught me how to double haul a heavy fly line and he turned me on to Folbot kayaks (I own two now), but he never, ever showed the compassion that you would expect from an AIDS survivor. Last time I talked with him, he bragged about his lunch with his friend Ann Coulter. Evidently, those contacts paid off.

3. Ewww. How bizarre. The head Federal judge for Oklahoma is a fairly
good friend of mine...he's also a hopeless right-winger but he's not really an asshole about it. His wife is a RWer too but in our last "discussion" she seemed to have become a bit more sanguine about politics...she was head attorney for a large company that went bankrupt & she lost her job. I just love to get them on the defense about Chimp's lies and screw-ups. :D
How's it goin', Mac? Been raining here for 5 damn days, maybe some snow flurries tomorrow. :eyes:

7. Going great, Karl.
Who owned that G-2 that crashed at Hobby? Was that an OK company? What was the vis at Hobby when they shot that approach? Any idea?

We seem to both know a bunch of well-known right-wingers. Guess it goes with our elite territory as corporate and airline pilots.

9. Absolutely bizarre.
If actually HAVING the disease doesn't do anything for a person's compassion level, NOTHING will.

10. I'll link his name to cases, when that history is established.
