2. Hello?
Have you ever watched "NewsNight"? He's the only journalist who's ever had Greg Palast on his program (as far as I can tell). I don't want him to replace Rather, though -- his journalistic skills would be wasted in a 30-minute newscast where he's basically just reading copy.

3. I'd rather have Keith Olbermann
Aaron is a giant insomnia cure to me. He may be a good journalist but I don't think he's all that as an anchor.

11. I agree about Brown's low-key approach
After all the hyperactivity of other cable news shows (Tweety et al.), he can be perhaps TOO serious. And I agree with you about Olbermann -- he's my favorite -- but NEVER on network news! Although it would be funny to see him tossing paper at the camera every night.

21. Olbermann's done network news--
when he was with MSNBC the first time around in 1997-1998, they let him anchor the NBC Weekend News on more than one occasion. They haven't let him near it this time around though, although he did co-host the Today show last year when they were shopping for a new weekend anchor (Lester Holt ultimately got that job).

25. CBS might stifle Olbermann
With Karnizan gone and a Bush supporter left running Viacom, I suspect any new anchor will be muzzled on reporting liberal news. It might be best to leave Olbermann at MSNBC, where at least he's allowed some free rein to expose right-wing mis-deeds.

but if he does Keith would be acceptable.

29. Aaron puts me to sleep

amd I'm sure he is saying something meaningful, I just yawn when I see him.

Don't flame me but he is far too nice.

No one, in my opinion, will be allowed to replace Rather other than a neocon.

Have you noticed how they scream! They do it for a reason - to bully every listener.

Aaron is a nice guy and he would be just the choice of the Republicans. Watch him get the job.

15. Of course, damn it.
When he's not responding negatively to emails with constructive criticism, he rolls his eyes at Bev Harris. Little prick.

22. Agreed. Brown is a tool.
Aaron Brown used to be a local anchor in my market (Seattle area). He was a snide, smarmy little tool then, and he still is. He hasn't got the gravitas, class or objectivity that Cronkite, Wallace et al have in their pinky fingers.

Maybe Ray Suarez or Christiane Amanpour could replace Rather.

38. brown noser lil prick. don't let his smirky relaxed 'tude fool you.
I liked him ok before the announcement of the Iraq invasion, but then he turned into an idiot or showed his true colours, one or the other. And his Paula Con 101 eyerolling thing just makes me want to throttle him.

smug prick.

7. Aaron is hardly a "stupid Republican"...and you know what, if he
is a "Republican" - then so what? I'd rather have an intelligent and thoughtful and fair journalist who happens to be a Republican than a stupid talking empty head.

Lou Dobbs is actually a Republican (has stated so openly) but he, like Aaron Brown remembers what the Republican party used to stand for....not what the neo-cons have tried to change it to....

4. Aaron Brown is great...funny you mention him, he was my 1st thought
for a replacement for Dan Rather when I heard the news that Rather was stepping down as anchor from CBS....

CBS would be lucky to get him and their ratings would skyrocket up to 1st if they had him...

12. Aaron Brown talked about Dan Rather last night on his program
He was praising Rather's courage and admitted that although he was on the confrontational side, he would be difficult to replace.

I think it would be fine if they replaced Rather with Brown, because we'll be lucky if they don't replace him with someone more conservative.

The other problem would be, who would CNN put in Brown's place? We're nuts if we think it wouldn't be someone more conservative.

23. Frankly, I'm so tired of CNN, I could care less who they would replace
Aaron Brown with...After CNN's turn to the far right in their attempt (it seems) to compete with Fox, especially and painfully obvious with their pathetic coverage of the Dem convention in Boston, I wouldn't give it a second thought to switch to watching CBS exclusively if they had the good sense to put Aaron Brown on as their anchor. Quite frankly, I'm so tired of Cable news and the garbage on, I'm thinking of switching it off entirely and sticking to only "basic cable" in order to get local channels and PBS. I'd watch the nightly news on CBS w/ Aaron Brown and wouldn't miss CNN one bit....

5. He's a smarmy pseudo-reflective asshole

His way of looking at both sides of an issue is to give rightwingers a fair hearing twice, once before the commercial break, once after. He wouldn't know circumspect if it flanked him and bit him in the ass.

35. I agree, but....
...talk about the proverbial snowball's chance!

My cable outlet runs Democracy Now on the public access channel in the mornings. I've grown to have a lot of respect for her -- another reason why she will never make it in the "mainstream" media: Doesn't let spin get in the way of truth.

10. They can replace him with Anthrax Coulter, for all I care
My television is OFF during the nightly propaganda hour, and I've been a lot better off because of it. I listen to good music, enjoy my dinner, and go about my business blissfully unaware of the poison being fed to the right wing sheep and dimwits in the burbs. I'm also cheerfully depriving the advertisers of one member of the audience they're paying for.

Starve the beast, starting with the lying newscasts.
