Falwell's Thanksgiving message: I thank God for Hannity, Limbaugh, FOX....
MEDIA MATTERS for America

Falwell's Thanksgiving message: "I thank God" for Hannity, Limbaugh, FOX, NewsMax, WorldNetDaily, and The Drudge Report

During his November 21 pre-Thanksgiving sermon, Reverend Jerry Falwell, Moral Majority founder and national chairman of the Faith and Values Coalition, encouraged his audience to "praise the Lord" at Thanksgiving for "alternative news media" sources such as FOX News Channel, Sean Hannity, and Rush Limbaugh, which he said are "telling the truth."

From Falwell's November 21 televised sermon, broadcast from his Thomas Road Baptist Church:

Let me talk to you about five good things of late ... for which this week I hope you and your family around your Thanksgiving table will praise the Lord. ... No. 5: America has alternative news media and is no longer held hostage by the major print and broadcast media. I remember a day when ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN and the major print media controlled all the news flow to the American people and we found ourselves getting warped and distorted news. I thank God now in the 21st century for talk radio, that three hours a day people like Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and hundreds of others are telling the truth of what really is going on. I thank God for FOX News Channel . I thank God for the Internet bloggers and the news producers like NewsMax.com, WorldNetDaily.com, even The Drudge Report.

Media Matters for America has documented numerous instances of false statements made by the so-called "truth" tellers that Falwell is thankful for:

Sean Hannity

Rush Limbaugh

FOX News Channel

NewsMax.com

WorldNetDaily.com

The Drudge Report

Falwell is pastor of the Thomas Road Baptist Church, a 22,000-member church in Lynchburg, Virginia, that is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. Falwell's weekly services, titled "The Old Time Gospel Hour" are broadcast from the church and reach global audiences by television, radio, and Internet. Falwell is founder and chancellor of Liberty University. He operates the Liberty Channel cable and satellite network, publishes the National Liberty Journal, and writes a weekly column published by conservative news outlets such as WorldNetDaily.com and NewsMax.com. Falwell endorsed President George W. Bush's reelection.

1. Why?
Why do people still listen to a man that said on national television that 9/11 was the fault of the gays and the pagans and all the other groups he decided to objectify that night? Even fundies have to agree that the man is wacko.

You'd think he would at least get a mention since they both seem to have the same hypocritical views of sex and marriage

A "church" such as this, with 22,000 members, is a city of shame.

9. Do you have first hand trailer trash experience?
I've heard Conservative dj's talk about the self-same people as the ones Gore didn't want to "leave behind."

Even if network news numbers are down, aren't they still viewed by more folks than cable? I thought that was pointed out within the last few months.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but if they're so damn poor, one would think they might not HAVE cable.

Way to generalize there dude. I imagine you've pissed off a few Kerry supporters with that little rant. Because some of the folks you think you're describing voted Dem this election.

Watch it fella, unless you want to share marshmallow sticks with ol' Jerry.

Meanwhile, how can that person call himself a man of God. By my lights, and this goes for my church as well, John Kerry represented Christian values better than the current administration and their minions.

Pharasees, anyone?

10. I come from a poor white working class family
They didn't live in a trailer, they lived in a rough neighborhood in Baltimore.(this is my dad's side---my mother was born in a refugee camp)
They were Christian, socially conservative and Dems for the most part. They worked for every penny they had.
This last post is why midwesterners voted for Bush---arrogance and elitism on the part of our side. Contempt for them and their way of life.
We are not going to convince them to vote for us if we talk like this.

16. This is a message board. Our rants don't lose elections.
Kerry and every visible Democrat showed no contempt for the other side's voters.

17. Excuse me!!!!!
I live in a a mobile home and I am not ignorant white trash, nor do I live on welfare or food stamps. I am sick of people bashing those who live in mobile home parks. Most of us are not ignorant, foul-mouthed, beer-swilling rednecks.

20. Me too
singlewide, equipped with muddy roads and fun, crazy neighbors, most who supported Kerry.

We are going to visit my FIL today, in his big ol house with lots of acreage, and he and his wife voted for Bush.

Here, in central Tx, the richer folks voted for him. Guaranteed.

...and everyone around the world? His prayers seem very selective...to those who agree with him.

11. Well these Christians never seem to follow the teachings of Christ
they seem to find arcane scriptures in Leviticus more important than the words of Christ himself
