Spooky, Spooky Rove Spooky, Spooky Bush
Edited on Thu Nov-25-04 05:00 AM by proudbluestater
From an article in the Guardian in the UK by Sidney Blumenthal, former Clinton aide. This article was written about a backstage tour Rove and Bush were given of the new Clinton Presidential Library, the day of its dedication. Read the whole thing at the link below:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,12271,1358966,00.html

"Offstage, beforehand, Rove and Bush had had their library tours. According to two eyewitnesses, Rove had shown keen interest in everything he saw, and asked questions, including about costs, obviously thinking about a future George W Bush library and legacy. "You're not such a scary guy," joked his guide. "Yes, I am," Rove replied. Walking away, he muttered deliberately and loudly: "I change constitutions, I put churches in schools ..." Thus he identified himself as more than the ruthless campaign tactician; he was also the invisible hand of power, pervasive and expansive, designing to alter the fundamental American compact.

Bush appeared distracted, and glanced repeatedly at his watch. When he stopped to gaze at the river, where secret service agents were stationed in boats, the guide said: "Usually, you might see some bass fishermen out there." Bush replied: "A submarine could take this place out."

Was the president warning of an al-Qaida submarine, sneaking undetected up the Mississippi, through the locks and dams of the Arkansas river, surfacing under the bridge to the 21st century to dispatch the Clinton library? Is that where Osama bin Laden is hiding?"

IT GETS WEIRDER

7. Bu$h is quite paranoid, isn't he?
The only second coming that man will witness shall be Richard Nixon's.

Well that's my fervent desire that their paranoia and arrogance will sink them.

8. No - he's just an over-indulged child, pretending to be a
statesman. At this point he lives in a fantasy world created by the RW echo chamber that will support him no matter how badly he fails.

4. You're right, Mr. Rove
"You're not such a scary guy," joked his guide. "Yes, I am," Rove replied. Walking away, he muttered deliberately and loudly: "I change constitutions, I put churches in schools ..."

I wish America was more aware of the kind of people it voted for.

6. I haven't read it all yet, but this story sounds like BS to me.
In addition, I wonder if Rove's supposed comment wasn't sarcastic.

just being sarcastic. Same for Shrub and his submarine comment.
But you just have to wonder what mentality goes along with statements
like these being made in public, even in jest. Just not something people
with such power should be saying.

22. I think it was the speculation on little comments
that made me wonder about the article's conclusions. Hey, it's a column, so the guy's allowed his opinion. But to take one comment from the president and try to extrapolate what's going on in that mind of his was stretching things a bit.

More telling were the reporting of Bush's actions: trying to skip ahead, running out of there as fast as possible.

And I agree with the person who said Rove sounded sarcastic. He likes to spoof on his image apparently. But that doesn't mean he doesn't have a Conservative religious agenda. I think he does. So there is a little nut of truth in that spoof.

9. Don't you think that some of this sounds a little too wild to be true?
I'm not suggesting that the two men are not unbalanced and dangerous.

But seriously, this makes Rove sound like a comic book villain.

10. Reminds me of my Rove sig:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3987237.stm

Early exit polls quoted by media seemed to give Mr Kerry the edge, but colleagues said Mr Rove indicated right away that they did not tally with his information.

He used his own data to put Ohio and Florida in the Bush column - bringing cheers from the president and his family when he went into the Roosevelt Room and told them

about the submarine. I now wonder if that was just wishful thinking on his part.

I did notice the yahoo e-mail address for the author at the bottom of the article......hmmmmm.

24. The Guardian is simply the best, as is Sidney Blumenthal
I've been reading him for months now, since the election season started. He used to work in the Clinton White House, was at the ceremony. Nothing odd about him unless you consider being a Democrat odd.

You might go through the archives at the Guardian and read some of his past stuff. All of it is excellent. Makes me wish a paper here would carry his columns, but our media is "owned" and the UK's is not.

If you get tired of reading the non-news from US papers, the Guardian covers a LOT of what is going on here that the US papers won't talk about. I have it bookmarked and use it as a major news source. One of the most respected papers in the world.

26. Oh yeah I know who he is and his past.
I do love The Guardian as well. The Yahoo address had me contemplating sending him a message but I needed to compose myself before composing a response. :D

The Guardian has featured some excellent commentary over the past 3 years that at times have both infuriated (for lack of U.S. coverage) and delighted (former Python members spot on observations) me.

:hi:

Just confused and angry lately.

I am a huge fan of Blumenthal and respect his work. We should be grateful to writers in his league. IMHO.

17. Here's the only part
of the article that I am hesitant to believe:

"According to two eyewitnesses, Rove had shown keen interest in
everything he saw, and asked questions, including about costs,
obviously thinking about a future George W Bush library and legacy."

We all know that money is not a factor for any of the Shrub Gang,
when it comes to something they want, or especially something
they believe they deserve.
