Ukraine's state owned TV station rebels

    TV Stations Rebel
http://www.truthout.org/docs_04/112704Y.shtml

Two TV stations have pledged to provide balanced coverage.    On Thursday, state-owned TV station UT1 rebelled against government control by announcing live on air that its news team was joining opposition protests.

Hours earlier the private, formerly pro-government channel One Plus One said it would stop bending to government pressure in news reports.

Mr Yushchenko started the presidential campaign as Ukraine's most popular politician, and it took an enormous propaganda effort on state-run TV channels to make Mr Yanukovych look like a real contender, correspondents say.

2. But notice the effect; parts of Ukraine will finally see the crowds...
Our "BFEE own TV" always aired W's speeched to small bused audiences and NEVER showed the big crowds at kerry events. Now - the Ukrainean people will find out. While ours will still try to get "better values"
Anyway, it underscores the importance of the media in propping a dictatorship. in Romania, the crucial moment was, not so much the crowd booing the dictator, but taking over the teevee station.

3. Network fantasy
I wanna scream out my window, "mad as hell..."
but to what end? emotional catharsis?

I remember when Falung Gong (allegedly) sabotaged satellite
transmission in China. I am not a criminally minded person,
but feel so many crimes have been perpetrated against
We the People by cable and broadcast media in particular,
that if I had the wherewithall, I could find so much satisfaction,
"emotional catharsis" - whatever - if it were possible to hold
the propaganda machine hostage.
