My First Occasional (Possibly Daily) Comparison!
I have long believed that our "friends" of the far right have been for too long a time operating under the radar in their most hateful and venomous statements while our "liberal media" has NEVER shone a light on them as the hate-mongering people that they make every effort to reflect themselves to be.

Thanks to my wonderful wife Maria, who will be submiting articles here and elsewhere on the issues on which she's strongest (education and morality) I will be doing my small part to shine that light. She suggested that I start posting a daily (or at least a few times a week) comparison of a statement of a mainstream rightie and somebody from the center, center/left or left.

The above paragraphs are a first time explanation and most of the posts will be just 2 comparing quotes.

I will start out today with one of their icons and one of ours. I know that I am preaching to the choir, but maybe some of the lurkers from the other side will come to understand that we are now paying closer attention to their "leaders"!

So, without further ado,

THEIRS

"We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity!"
ann coulter, post 9/11

OURS

"To those peoples in the huts and villages of half the globe struggling to break the bonds of mass misery, we pledge our best efforts to help them help themselves, for whatever period is required- not because the communists may be doing it, not because we seek their votes, but because it is right. If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich"
John F. Kennedy, Inaugural Address, 1/20/61

Kind of speaks for itself, doesn't it?

1. I like the idea.....
but (saw that coming, didn't you?), using Ann Coulter as representing anyone is not going to help people to see the light. She is entertainment - she is not taken seriously by anyone that has a brain. And if someone does take her seriously, how could you ever hope to convince that person of anything rational?

Concentrate on those on the right that either have a large following based the issues, or people actually in positions of power that have an effect on our lives. There should be plenty of material just from top administration officials.

You should also post on a site that has lefties and righties. You already know we agree with you here. Getting feedback from the other side will let you know if you're getting through. (Or at least pissing someone off.)

Good luck,
Make7

2. Ann Coulter is a best-sellling author.
I think it's fair to quote her.

3. It was just a suggestion.
I'm just saying that I don't think Ann Coulter is representative of the right wing. All she seems to do is attack the left, she seems to have nothing to add to any real political debate. Her popularity is not because she is a political leader or has anything of substance to say, it is because she is entertaining.

If a fair comparison is to be made, to counter-balance Ann you would need to use a quote from an extreme left wing person. Comparing a fringe element of one party to the middle of the road of another is not likely to change anyone's mind. They will say it's unfair and stop listening.

6. Another Point Well Taken...
...but I'll respectfully disagree. I feel that if she weren't considered representative of the right she wouldn't get so much of the publicity she so obviously craves. A few days before the election, I even heard her interviewed on BBC's "World Update" program on NPR! She was making the argument that John Kerry wasn't too bright and that ** was just this side of brilliant!

Regarding fringes and middles, as I said before, I'll be using all sorts of righties and people from our side. I certainly don't want people to stop listening so your point is already in my mind.

Thanks Yet Again,
Jack

4. Point Well Taken!
Edited on Sun Nov-28-04 08:16 AM by MarianJack
And Thanks. I intend to use people from all sorts of sources from the righties and from our side. I figure that the nuts were good for a start, but I'll certainly use this mis-administation's words against them in the future. That, in fact, is one of my favorite tactics.

The comparison for 11/28 is from another coulterish person, but I've got an administration ally/'08 prospect in mind for 11/29.

I will say that one reason I want to use people of the coulter, hannity, limbaugh, savage & o'reilly ilk is to show what they're ACTUALLY SAYING and presenting as America's mainstream.

I certainly would appreciate direction to sites where both sides post. If you have any suggestions, I'd appreciate further feedback!

Thanks again,
Jack
