the problem is that the THE THE issue of 2004 is voter enfranchisement...
we didn't get phucked; the constitution was reduced to toilet paper by the repugs and no "significant" democrat other than Jesse Jackson has raised their voice above a whisper to ensure that every vote cast is counted, that everyone who wants to vote can vote...
you can't win when you've refused, failed, lacked the imagination or courage to point out that they- as in the republican they- now count only the votes they want to count-
aside from civic duty and blind faith, since the dems on the national level don't seem (hope against hope for a December surprise, making me eat my words) to think that guarenteeing my vote means something more than pissing into the wind, can the dems give me a good reason to vote at all for them in 2006?
other than we aren't them, we are human beings, we care, we have a long history of caring? those are all important, beleive me...
but if the dems feel that there is a thresdhhold to the point at which they will fight for enfranchisement- (and don't tell me nothing is proveable yet)- 3 and a half mil votes perhaps-- my response is a) i believe that many of those 3.5 mil votes seperating Bush and Kerry are bogus and b) it may not matter to the Kerry cause, but in some cases, 2 or 3 thousands of those "funky votes" could've made the difference in a senate or house race....
the dems have had three chances now to turn this enfranchisement thing around- 2000, when they got caught flatfooted, but really made a stand; 2002, when they apparently ignored vote theft; and 2004, where according to a note posted last night by a constituent of Barney Frank, they know somethings are wrong but there simply may not be a legal venue in which to challenge anything since it is afterall the republiocans who are counting the vote...
this ain't baseball, but three strikes...
seems like it may be time for another team to take a turn at bat.
and i don't consider myself a doomsayer or an abandon shipper... more like an old-fashioned activist questioning the status quo...
