WH issues dress code to press corps
Is this Le Cirque - or Canada? Photographers and other members of the White House press corps used to more casual attire were freaking after a memo from President Bush's people yesterday dictated the "dress code" for his joint press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin today. "Jeans and T-shirts will not be permitted," it read. "Gentlemen must wear jackets."

Do they usually dress way down? hmmm...maybe because the cameras aren't on them? Seems a little pretentious and insulting. Or maybe it's just one more way to beat the press like he owns them.

2. Photographers in a jacket and tie? That's laughable.
Now we'll get to see if they are forced by their "free press" owners to suit up, as per der Fuehrer's edict.

You're right, this is a "How high?" moment. Very interesting.

5. all the press i have seen
wear stuff like photojournalist vests, cargo pants, ect
stuff with a lot of pockets to hold all their gear, and stuff that is comfortable and easy to move around in.
If this was *'s call it just makes me sick!

2. in another country
I really think he has severe mental/ego problems and its starting to scare me!

6. A Tie can be a real problem

They get in the way, especially if you are carrying several cameras with straps and flash units with external battery packs etc.

Ties are not PRACTICAL.

9. Doesn't he have that same dress code for the people who work in the WH?
I think I read that somewhere. They must "respect" the office of the Presidency and dress appropriately. :eyes: Too bad they don't have a president they can respect.

10. Too bad they didn't have the balls...
...to ALL show up in jeans and t's, thus forcing the admin to either forego press coverage, or back down.

11. Never seen
I have never seen them dress "way" down before, but with LYING bush, anything is possible! This is more of an insult to the press than from the press to the president.
