Reality Check: Bush got more Democratic votres than Dean did
Edited on Tue Nov-30-04 04:58 PM by genius
And, unlike Dennis, Dean got no votes on the floor of the convention. Also, unike Dennis, Dean did not come in first anywhere. So, if Dean people want a war about primary votes (with nine candidates) vs how many Dem votes Bush got, it's a stupid idea. Personally, I think the comparisons of this nature are worthless. The truth is that Kerry was the frongrunner coming out of the door and no candidate did as well in the primary as Kerry did. The same comparison could be made of all but Kerry.

1. How do you figure that?
Edited on Tue Nov-30-04 04:58 PM by tjdee
Was that in exit poll figures?

Where did Kucinich come in first?

This thread is going to be interesting, basically because you've said some confrontational stuff.

5. Do your own homwork. Dennis did a lot beter than Dean in many places
Go back and look over the results. Dennis had a first, a couple of seconds, and some thirds.

7. To stop ridiculous threads like one posted earlier.
These threads are divisive and stupid. You cannot compare Bush in the G.E. to one out of nine primary candidates when one primiary candidate took and held an immediate lead over the other eight.

If you want to pick a fight, try swinging at the guy who punched you.

17. Sorry. Actually I could have gone after any of the nine except Kerry
If someone other than a Dean person started the other thread, I apologize to the the Dean people. Most of the attacks on DK in the primaries came from the Dean people. But isn't this nonsense ridiculous? No one but Kerry did well in the primaries.

10. You do realize that the one posted earlier...
...was posted by someone who has long had an axe to grind about Dean, don't you? Why don't you go after that poster, and their DLC cheerleading, rather than doing the work of non-progressives in their attempts and division and disruption of any fragile harmony that might exist?

18. I apologize to the Dean people and re-aim it against the candidate of the
earlier thread poster. If their candidate was other than Kerry, he/she did lousy in the primaries. If their candidate was Kerry, he's a QUITTER and I wouldn't vote for him again. The truth is we cannot base anything on primaries where only one candidate came out a winner.

Can we please not resurrect these Dean/Kucinich/Clarke, etc. arguments. It was ugly back then and it is not going to do us any good now.

6. It's a shame to start rehashing the past like this
but Dean also pulled out of the race and DK (to his credit) went the distance. Dean also requested that his name not be put in nomination and requested that his delegates vote for Kerry which they honored. Dean did, btw, get some very impressive votes after he pulled out of the race, winning his state of Vermont (how many other candidates who dropped out won their states?) and came in second in states like Idaho and Pennsylvania (after quitting the race). I have nothing but admiration for DK and what he did, but I don't think we need to start these kinds of comparisons.

20. At least I admit the threads were cheap and tawdry.
And I hope that we can stop these stupid threads. But if someone attacks Dennis, the DK supporters are up to the fight.

16. And Alaska. He won Puerto Rico
It counted in the primaries. Dean didn't win anything. On the other hand, these threads are ridiculous. People thought Kerry was electable and they didn't expect him to quit. Maybe next time, if people are smart, the Dems will nominate someone with some endurance, like Dennis.

Dennis came in fourth in that race. Your point is taken. Just thought I'd note that.

26. As I recall it, Dean stopped running, Dennis didn't.
You are correct, Kerry won the nomination. He just lost the general election.

The fact that I believe Dean would have done better in the general election is the reason I supported him.

I still believe this to be true, but we will never know.
