This is still my favorite picture of an endorsement in Harlem!

Democratic presidential candidate Gen. Wesley Clark (news - web sites), center, delivers a speech, surrounded by supporters including Congressman Charles Rangel, D-NY, right, at a campaign event in Harlem, Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, in New York. At the endorsement rally, hosted by , Rangel and attended by by state and local officials and about 200 supporters, Rangel called the retired general 'the candidate who can beat the president.' . . .that is something we (Black voters) look for. Clinton has it, Clark has it.

Do seem to have served him well in this regard. He grew up during segregation, but learned his way and worked his way out of prejudice. Nice.

For the non church goers, Baptists raise their hands in the air like that and say, Amen. We wave it a little too. :7

31. The Dem party has taken the African American demographic for granted
For way too long.
They didn't even speak out when blacks were targeted
in Fla2K to erase their (usually Dem) votes and
successfully steal the election. They don't speak out
even though a huge percentage of black men are convicted
of felonies and then denied the right to vote, which is
another clear Pug strategy to use the American justic
system to erase people from the voting booth.
And I'm sorry to say that Gore didn't speak out about this
disgrace at Fla2K time.
He just ruled out the option of fighting to get that group of
"voices" heard, and three years later we see the results.

General Clark has showed concern for African Americans
right from the start.
It's so nice to see that in a Democrat for a change.

38. Clark was raised a Baptist. How is it pandering?
If he had no knowledge of Baptist traditions and went in there and tried to act like he was "down" with the black folks in church, THAT would be pandering. Of course when Howie does it (and bet your bottom dollar he will) you won't say it's pandering. You'll find yet another colorful euphemism to describe what Howie does.

Very condecending and uncalled for. You just implied that they are in the role of the aformentioned black maid. I'm not sure if that was your intention but that's how it comes accross.

If you are white (and I'm guessing that you are) where do you get off critiquing Clarks interaction with Black people? I mean it's not like Clark tacitly endorsed the confederate flag or anything.

She also claims that their belief that sin cannot be avoided often turns to a lax attitude toward morality in general. No, Florinda certainly did not like the Baptists. I think Clark should have been more aware of how this photo-op might offend constituents such as the Pentecostals, Atheists, and Lutherans (for whom the very idea of individual expression in church is mortifying beyond belief. It could cost him IA, MN and WI). ;-)

100. Yes, I've been to Pentecostal services as a guest of friends.
I've seen testimonials given. I was refering to a rift between Pentecostals and Baptists, as one of my friends' mom described.

The other Church I refered to was the Lutheran church in which I was raised. We follow a liturgy that is very similar to the Catholic mass and individual expression is forbidden.

May appreciate that Clark converted to Catholicism, then. Presbyterians may like that he attends a Presbyterian church in Little Rock. Jews already like that he is half-Jewish. Baptists look as though they like that he was raised a Baptist. Albanians seem to like that he saved their Muslim lives. Clark is all for freedom of religion.

I don't expect Dean to do photo ops in Church but I could be wrong, he is a master politician, and democratic candidates seem to like the Church angle lately, but then the Republicans started it IIRC.

second your post is going to be deleted, edit it and remove nicks.
