Love Kerry? Love to hate him? - It's Time to Band Together!
Edited on Tue Nov-30-04 02:07 PM by Spiffarino
To all DUers: Many of us have differing opinions on the merits of John Kerry as a person, a candidate and a leader.

That's the great thing about our democracy and about being liberals, Democrats, progressives, etc. - we can live with diversity and still be happy. And, it is precisely what separates us from most on the other side.

There is one thing that brings us together: Our democracy is in deep trouble. Our rights as citizens are being eroded by the theocrats and robber barons who are taking control of every branch of our government.

Yes, there are disruptors who would love to see us fail. We all know that, but we also know their tactics. Let them do their worst. Treat folks as though they are honest, and the disruptors will eventually hang themselves. By remaining true to our priniciples, they can never break us. Learning that simple truth will be enough to twist a huge, painful knot in their collective undies.

Therefore I am asking DUers - no, begging you - to come together in this time of deepening crisis for our country. It's time to get back to our core values and show respect for each other's opinions and tolerance for our differences.

If we are not strong and unified, we can be broken; but together, we are unstoppable.

I know this is not external activism and may not be appropriate in this forum. It's simply a call for unity on this board. Now, to borrow a phrase from the campaign:

I've got your back. Who's got mine?

On edit: elad, thanks for helping me see the light ;)

3. Stop squabbling about petty differences - get each other's back

...and focus on what matters most. Practically, to me, it would mean not responding negatively to Kerry-bashers or Kerry-lovers. It's one thing to draw folks out on their opinions, but quite another to accuse them of being freepers.

It's obvious (or should be) that arguments over who likes whom play right into the hands of the enemy. Rove and his minions are champs when it comes to dividing and conquering. Therefore, we must unite behind a common goal: to reduce the power of the radical right. I hope this post about unity can be a positive step toward that goal.

People are upset about November 2nd. We're spending entirely too much time and energy arguing about things that matter little. I've been all over this board watching people get angrier and angrier about other posters' opinions on Kerry, or candidate x, y, or z. It's time to honor our differences of opinion and concentrate as much as possible on the most important issues.

I've got your back. Meaning I consider you an ally in the fight for democracy. Meaning I will treat you with respect even if you disagree.

2. I Miss John Kerry
I'm not sure if I want him to be the 2008 nominee. But I thought he was a good candidate. Who knew that the GOP would succeed into turning his service in Nam into a negative? Who knew just how gullible blue-collar America could be? Who knew this nation would elect a total failure to a second term. Amazing!

Peace.
