All we need are fair and honest elections
Edited on Sat Dec-04-04 11:49 AM by AmerDem
There is alot of talk here on what we need to do as a party. What we did wrong during the last election. Why are females and minorities leaving the party. This is a bunch of hot air. All we need is true/fair and fraud free elections and we will soon see how we are still by far the majority of America. This is the one thing that has me so upset with Kerry. After endless promises to protect the vote he concedes immediately and is now only getting slightly involved through pressure. We needed him to take this issue up and turn it into the front page news story until everyone across the country was on-board with an election system that was standardized and scrutinized.

If we get fair and honest elections we take our country back immediately.

2. Yes! But I would add to that....

that we also need fair media coverage. Every time I see or hear someone
going on about what we should have done different in this campaign I
wonder what makes them assume the media would have covered the
Democratic campaign better if we had done those things. I think we ran
a good campaign this time. We were defeated by vote insecurity/manipulation
and biased media coverage.

All this tearing of hair about what we need to differently (especially those
advocating that we turn in to watered-down Republicans) is foolish, IMO.

4. if the elections were
set up to be fraud proof all the nonsense any of the press tried to mention would mean nothing. The votes would count and the corporate news media would quickly be neutralized.

7. I wouldn't say only
but I believe with everything in me that we would be by far the majority. Which makes me so mad when I think about it. Why the hell aren't Kerry and the other leaders out there speaking non stop about reforming the election process?

6. I agree
Nothing else matters, or CAN matter, until we have honest, transparent voting and counting. It freaks me out that here in America we're awash in confusion when there are functioning democracies around the world. Why don't we stop re-inventing the wheel and just find out how others do it? I know, I know, TPTB like the confusion and Rube Goldberg aspects of our voting system, and that's the real reason it'll be so hard to effect change....

8. Wrong.
There is definite trouble with our direction. We must realign with traditional Democratic principals. We have been steadily losing ground for decades. We must turn this thing around and go back left. It's not only necessary, it's the right thing to do. I will no longer vote for conservative Dems. You moderates - respectfully - need to realize that you will lose us liberal Dems if we don't go back left.

This election is different. Things are broken all around us now. Why are they broken? What do we need to do to fix things? If you disagree with my assesment that things are broken, you'd better take another look.

I'm sorry to say this, but it's time for a complete overhaul. And just because you deny the truth doesn't prevent the inevitable changes that must come if we are to avoid losing again in '08.

Recognize the problem.

10. you're bringing more ideology into this thread
then I started with. First off I do consider myself a moderate Democrat ( how you ever came to that conclusion based on my opening post is beyond me) but being a moderate Democrat isn't the root of the problem we faced in the last two presidential elections. Both elections were stolen from us and both election had the same reaction from the candidate we supported, they laid down and quit for whatever God given reason and left us without any form of real leadership.

Back to focus of this thread. Do you honestly think we lost either of these elections? Do you honestly think we had in either case strong candidates that stood up and pushed the issue of voter fraud to the American people? Do you have any idea what so ever why either candidate did virtually nothing to stand up for themselves and the supporters that had faith in them?

These two election were not lost, they were stolen outright. Once you come to grips with this fact and understand that we collectively as a party be it socialist, liberal, some what liberal, moderate or flat out conservative Democrat are the majority of America the better chance we will have in saving this country from anymore damage we have taken under this current administration. This isn't a time to split hairs on ideology separating what should be solid support party wide.

This is all very simple, fair and honest elections and we take everything back...everything!

9. I couldn't agree more, AmerDream
That's right on target. As soon as the rest of the country does more or less what CA has done -- impound machines that don't abide by the rules, require an audit, etc. -- suddenly the machines will start giving accurate results, just like the ATMs, and the Dems will win almost every election, even in the South, even in GA and AL. But unless some big voices begin crusading for this, it's not going to happen. There have to be protests, people in the streets, and that has to be the CENTRAL ISSUE. I hope and pray OH and WA and NM will be the beginning of it and it will take off from there. Once Dems take charge again, we can start debating about all these minutiae, the precise policies. Until the machines are cleaned up, the Dems will NEVER win anything again, except where the machine programmers decide to allow it and all this self-castigation and introspection is just so much melo-drama. To support Dems who keep compromising with the Repubs and moving toward the center and won't crusade for this issue is throwing money down a rat hole.
