Another perspective on the Rumsfeld screwup
Pardon me if this concept has been posted before. I just got the chance to get back on DU.

Okay, Rumsfeld is making excuses for the fact that the armor for the soldiers and vehicles was not ready.

BUT!!!!!!!

All through the election season, you kept hearing the Republicans screaming about how John Kerry voted against the funding for the equipment for the soldiers ("after he voted for it" - accusing him as a flip-flop). His issue with voting against the bill was that there was a huge blank check to Halliburton without any accounting for how it was going to be spent.

Despite Kerry's "No" vote, the bill passed. This was in October 2003!!

Now, that money has gone "to help arm our troops in the war on terror, er, Iraq", right? So, what happened to the money? Obviously, it's not being spent getting the armor onto the vehicles in time for the "unrushed war", right? There's a much bigger question there that the "so-called liberal media" has not bothered to ask, and it's not "Who gave the question to the soldiers?" The true question is - "What happened to all that money that was supposed to go to arming our troops and outfitting the vehicles?" This is no longer Kerry's "fault" (when it never was). This is purely on the shoulders of the Bush misAdministration.

9. BE MY F*ING GUEST!
I plan to make this point to as many as I can, and spread the word.

I especially like it when I make a point and somebody likes it enough to want to borrow it.

Take it! Spread the word! Apparently, there's at least one reporter out there trying to get the real questions answered, instead of "Mr. Bush, that's some nice embroidery. Where'd you get the jacket?"

2. Interestingly, Rumsfeld said money was NOT the problem.
He said the problem was production. However, with enough money, production could be speeded up, so I think it was just a specious excuse.

3. They have no one to blame but themselves...
And that's a tough pill to swallow when you are the self-described party of "personal responsibility"...

4. Really, why does there need to be any discussion.
Bushco controls everything. They have given the Pentagon 530+ billion dollars over the last year alone.

They couldnt find enough money to equip the troops.

5. Exactly right......hello America.....lets wake up here......
Let me repeat your point salient point: $530 BILLION (THAT'S $530,000 MILLION or $530,000,000,000.00 dollars) have been given to the Pentagon IN THE LAST YEAR.

Please explain again why our sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, husband and wives, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and friends are fighting in Iraq without adequate armor plating on the hummers? I heard tonight at least 20% of the casualties are directly attributable to lack of adequate protection/equipment.

What I'd really like to know is how many new Republican millionaires have been created because of this action in Iraq since the invasion.........

6. Apparently steel is now a scarce fucking commodity
Maybe we can get Walmart to import some steel from China so that we can use it to protect the soldiers?

11. its amazing how powerful they think Kerry is
Does his senate vote count for 50 votes?

Did he have the power, as an unelected protester, to extend the length of a war?

13. Because firing Rumsfeld during the Iraq war would be like
firing Jerry Seinfeld in the 3rd season of his show . . .

14. Well, the show was successful at least, while the war is not
I was disappointed to see a good man like Powell leave (yes, it would have been better if he resigned earlier on principle, but at least he tried to oppose the neocons), while someone like Rumsfeld stayed. I'm really worried that the neocons will now have no internal opposition, and will start more wars (Iran, N. Korea, etc).

16. My point, if you didn't get it, was that Jerry was the main force of the
show "Seinfeld" . . . Isn't Rumsfeld rather instrumental in the need to have an Iraq war? (;))
