America Coming Together Chief Executive Officer: Why Democrats lost Ohio
When it came to getting out the vote in Ohio during the presidential election last month, Democrats hit their target numbers. America Coming Together, along with our 32 America Votes partner organizations, the Democratic National Committee and the Kerry-Edwards campaign, not only exceeded turnout goals for the Buckeye State, but far exceeded anything the Democrats have done in the past.

Still, we lost. President Bush won the election by fewer than 120,000 votes out of 5.6 million cast in Ohio, according to the latest figures from the Ohio secretary of state. Democrats added 554,000 votes to their totals, but Republicans countered with 508,000 -- enough to keep the state in their column.

Since then, my colleagues and I have gone back to answer a nagging question: Who were all those Bush voters? Though much has been made of the Republican grassroots effort in Ohio and elsewhere, we did not see the sort of organization necessary to produce that many new votes. Where did they come from?

We conducted a post-election poll of 1,400 rural and exurban voters in Ohio counties where Bush won by an average of 17 percentage points. Their answers, and a closer look at other poll data, explode a few widely held theories about what happened.

1. I just got an e-mail from ACT with t article included. No Stolen Election
mentioned! That was a surprise. It was the same old "Why We Lost" stuff that's being put out around. Why no mention of the Vote?

14. This analysis is marred because it starts out with a false
assumption: Why did we lose?

The myth debunking portion seems good but I'd like to see what polls he relies on for the portion of the article dealing with the question of terror, Iraq, going to war and so on. And in particular, who paid for those polls

3. Big Deal....we already know that rural areas voted for Bush.
Why not do a poll where Democrats were disenfranchised in the urban areas?

Better than that, conduct a systematic canvassing of the precincts in question with affadavitts of registered voters.....that's where the fraud will be exposed.

6.  Screw them. No More money from me! Done.
What is their agenda? Hmmm? If they don't care about a stolen election, I don't care about them.

7. So, even though they were on the ground day in and day out
and saw first hand what happened in the state, because they do not reach the conclusion that YOU wish them to reach, they are now worthless?

Maybe they don't have an "agenda" but simply are reaching the conclusion the facts lead them to - instead of drawing a conclusion and insisting on it, regardless what the facts actually show.

8. Yeah, right.
Only winning counts and if we didn't win, as they say, yes, they are worthless. They are as bad as all the Dem leadership who are so quick to proclaim this over. And if they were "on the ground day in and day out". they should have prevented this from happening!
If we don't overturn this election, there will be no election reform and 2008 won't happen. It won't be a real election. So what do they need money for??

10. As I stated no 'real election" in 2008. Do you think there will be a
"real election" with votes counted and everything ,in 2008? Do you think Bushco will be just thrilled to initiate election reform? Just like they jumped into the Ohio recount because they want to protect the sanctity of the vote? Interesting, they are now the only party not represented in any way. Why would that be? Alrightee...

13. Have any prominent Democrats said that it is not over?
There have been very few who have spoken out about voting problems in OH, but not one of them have even suggested that the result will be anything other than another four years of Bush.

in the NY Times magazine where their reporter talks about following this guy around election day. Pretty interesting.
