What can WE do to get a progressive DNC chair
I'd be happy if it was Dean, but he it isn't a Dean or death situation. It DOES however need to be a solid progressive instead of DLCer if we want the republicans to stop fucking us in every election.
My question is, does anyone know what we (those not in the Democratic party elite) can do to lobby for this?
Ariana hits it right on the head in this article:

1. Check with
your local Dem leadership (County Chair, etc) and find out who has been elected to your District's DNC position(s). Fortunately, we had a Congressional District Caucaus last Saturday and were able to speak to BOTH DNC members from our district.....and they WILL get follow-up emails.

5. I don't know how New York is
organized but in Wisconsin, the number of Reps to the DNC is determined by Congressional District and we have a Congressional District Chairperson. The County Chairs should know the process. If your county people don't know who the reps are, then you might have to call the State party organization.

2. Its a bit difficult to influence it now.
We shouldnt be too dissapointed if we lose this battle. We need to build up our power in the party first starting at the grassroots. If we fill local and state organizations with progressives, the party will shift and we will get major dividends down the road. Right now its mostly inside politics.

3. I don't know if we CAN do anything at this point because..
this morning I heard Maine Rep. Barney Frank on AAR's Morning Sedition pooh-poohing our concersn about the DLC when it was brought up that so many of us want DNC leadership that is not Republican-lite. It seems that they are determined to ram it down our throats whether or not we agree since apparently "they know best."

I guess our only alternative is to refrain from supporting the DNC financially. It is time to investigate other groups like www.pdamerica.org and www.democracyforamerica.com

Anyone have any other groups they can suggest who have more fire and passion for the grassroots of this party, please let me know 'cause I am seeking diligently for an alternative to the DLC and its off-shoot baby, the NDN.

6. Check me out on this
If I understand the process correctly, the EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE of the DNC is meeting now. It's comprised of the State Chairs of the Party. The full DNC meets in January where they will pick the new DNC chair.

The DNC reps I talked to are going to the big meeting in January.

13. Wellington Webb, former mayor of Denver has been mentioned as well as
Donnie Fowler, son of former DNC Chair Don Fowler, and outgoing TX Congressman Martin Frost.

I'm sure there are more.

7. Good Arianna article, I like this quote
"...a growing number of Democrats in some of the reddest regions in America have racked up impressive, against-the-grain wins by framing a progressive economic platform in terms of values and right vs. wrong. These are not “left” ideas; they are good ideas."

Democrats don't need to change where they stand on the issues, they need to change the way they talk about the issues.

12. Great Sirota article also...
The Democrats' Da Vinci Code

www.alternet.org/story/20702/

great concrete ideas and suggestions as to how we can reclaim the party from the GOP-lites.

<snip> ...the Democrats' very own Da Vinci Code - a road map to political divinity. It is the path Karl Rove fears. He knows his GOP is vulnerable to Democrats who finally follow leaders who have translated a populist economic agenda into powerful cultural and values messages. It also threatens groups like the Democratic Leadership Council (DLC) which has pushed the Democratic Party to give up on its working-class roots and embrace big business' agenda. These New Democrats, backed by huge corporate contributions, say that the party must reduce corporate regulation and embrace a free-trade policy that is wiping out local economies throughout the heartland. They have the nerve to call this agenda "centrist" even though poll after poll shows it is far out of the mainstream. Yet these centrists get slaughtered at the ballot box, and their counterparts - the progressive economic populists - ae racking up wins and relegating the DLC argument to the scrap heap. <snip>
