This will make you furious
Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 11:46 AM by Liberty Belle
I just heard Stacy Taylor (a local radio host on Air America in San Diego) talking about a soldier who lost a limb in Iraq, sustained other serious injuries, and was released without even enough money to go home. Adding insult to injury (literally), the military presented this veteran with a bill for $2,000, claiming it overpaid him for various services!

Another vet called in and said this sort of thing is not unusual for the military to pull. Stacy also said that an unusually high number of Iraq veterans who have returned home are now homeless. That's because our government isn't taking care of them--and many enlisted because they lacked strong family ties to begin with.

This makes my blood boil. We need a new ad campaign, featuring guys like this soldier. Here's

"100,000 people have died in Iraq because Bush stole the last election. Thousands more are serious injured, like me. But our government isn't taking care of us after we come home.

How many more will die or be horribly mutilated if we let Bush get away with stealing another election?"

EXPOSE VOTING FRAUD NOW--& GIVE BUSH THE BOOT!

If you like this idea, please kick this thread to the top. Maybe we can get some celebs to fund the ad--and help pay our soldiers for their "acting" services, since the military doesn't see fit to take care of their lifelong disabilities.

1. Have any written media outlets posted this?
Like foreign media, as they seem to be more reliable than the US media?

2. I seriously doubt it. Maybe we could get the contact info
from Stacy Taylor on this guy. He might even have it posted on his website; I believe he was going to air some info on how to help, but I heard this in my car and missed the end.

More armored vehicles could readily be built, two companies say

WASHINGTON -- The manufacturer of Humvees for the U.S. military and the company that adds armor to the utility vehicles are not running near production capacity and are making all that the Pentagon has requested, spokesmen for both companies said.

"If they call and say, 'You know, we really want more,' we'll get it done," said Lee Woodward, a spokesman for AM General, the Indiana company that makes Humvees and the civilian Hummer versions.

6. National news show...
can't remember which (Dateline, 20/20, etc.) did an expose on this and interviewed the vet who came home missing a limb (or two), who'd lost his job because he wasn't able to do it due to his handicap and was now living in his car. To make matters worse, the government was suing him to reclaim the couple thousand dollar sign up bonus he was given to re-enlist (and then was seriously injured a few weeks later) stating he didn't fulfill his end of the contract. They had apparently ruined his credit enough that he lost his home and he as unable to rent anywhere because of the bad credit rating.

Gotta love our president who says we "support our troops". uh huh.

4. From personal experiences recounted to me
this is par for the course from WW1 until today.
It takes only 25 years for the public to forget the "poor unfortunate ones" enough to enjoy a good patriotic/religious fervor to go and do it all over again.
