Bioterrorism in Korea?

Tommy Thompson talks about Bioterrorism and pandemic flu and up pops a 1933 human flu virus (WSN/33) in swine in Korea in 2004

The virus is definitely from a lab, but how it got into pigs on farms in Korea is the big question.

The source of these sequences has not been determined, so it is possible that it is an accident, but it seems to have dramatically changed the gene pool in the pigs, which sets the stage for more major problems.

More info should come out soon, but virus is showing up in many pigs.

Rumor has it (from multiple sources) that WHO is gathering the flu samples for confirmation. The sequences are real, the crisis is looming, and soon the story will break.

The potential transmission to humans is very high because two of the swine isolates had 7 human genes (out of 8), including the two that code for surface proteins H1N1.

Thus, it is really a human virus that should be just as transmissible as human flu. However, it has genes from 1933, so it could be very nasty and it produces fatal infections in mice.

Although there have been no reported human cases, the virus is a human virus, so infections may have gone undiagnosed. With flu season beginning in Korea now, the human cases may surface and of course a human case in Korea is one flight away from a human case in the US.

The H1N1 in Korea is a problem in its own right, but it can also recombine with H5n1. Today Thailand announced more species positive for H5N1

I haven't followed you around to count how many times you have copied and pasted the same questions. I know of at least 2 (which I would calling following around) and they have both been answered.

Its pretty ironic that the human 1933 flu sequences in pigs in South Korea is being covered in China before its covered in the US
