Poll question: How serious a threat are "terrorists" on our nation?
Recognizing that everyone is familiar with the "attack" on the WTC and hte Pentagon.

3. The "terrorists" supposedly resent our liberty
Edited on Tue Dec-14-04 01:08 PM by slackmaster
If that is true, then sacrificing our liberty in the name of fighting "terrorism" hands them a victory by default.

BTW - We should stop using generic terms like terrorists to describe people with a specific and known agenda. Radical Muslims who want all Western influences out of the Middle East; pissed off white American guys who think the federal government has too much power; people with whatever genocidal agenda; whatever fits the particular people we're discussing. If you call them all "terrorists" we lose sight of who they really are.

5. They are more of a threat now
that the US reelected bush. I would be especially concerned if I lived in a red state. In most of the 'west' it is treated as a criminal justice matter. There are 9/11 suspects awaiting trial in Spain and France right now who will likely walk free because the Bush admin won't give them access to witness held at Guantanamo and classified 9/11 evidence.

6. 9-11 was a one-in-a-lifetime anomaly
they found a hole in the system.

the real damage was done by the panic & wrong choices made after.

8. There is a threat
There are people in this world that would like to get their hands on a nuclear weapon and set it off in the US. A cleric, if that's the right term, in Saudi Arabia declared that a nuclear attack on America would be justified because of all the deaths America had caused in the Middle East. Now, I have no idea if it is possible that a person would be able to get his or her hands on a nuclear weapon and be able to get it into the US, but it is something to be worried about.

7. The Clinton admin. stopped lots of attacks
that nobody ever heard about. The worst attack on America in history happened on Bush's watch. He has made the terrorist threat worse by attacking the wrong people and ignoring the real terrorists.

9. I say "Other"
Terrorists might be a threat to unfortunate individuals who are in the right place at the wrong time, but they are no threat to our nation. They could not possibly do enough damage, even with nukes, to threaten the nation itself.

The only threat to the nation they pose is in provoking anti-democratic responses to their acts, such as wars of aggression, jingoistic nationalism, and repressive legislation.
