Can We Develop a DU DEMOCRACY TEST?
I know, I know, some of you vehemently disagree with my contention that the Democratic Party is actually AWOL on democracy itself. Here's your chance to prove it. Conversely, we may find that the Democratic Party has lost its way and needs to do some serious soul-searching.

One way to to start is to develop a list of basic democratic concepts. Later we can see just how much the Democratic Party is actually working to implement these democratic values. This can also be converted into a values clarification test for individuals... to rate their agreement with each principle on a scale.

Topping my list of democratic values is this list. Does anyone have any more?

* One person, one vote
* No citizen shall be deprived of the vote
* All votes are of equal weight
* Majority rules (with constitutional protections for minorities)
* Citizens have the right to vote their conscience and receive some representation in government.
* Citizens have the right to vote their conscience and NOT worry about the so-called "spoiler" effect.

Of course something could be added about money in politics... the roll of PR firms that make a science of manipulating the public, etc.
