Left unchecked, this type of disparity builds resentment
Left unchecked, this type of disparity builds resentment. Until the captains of industry find ways to share more of the wealth with those in the trenches, they risk a political backlash against the policies that have made them wealthy.

This was on a USA today article sent to me today... from one of today's stories.

Let me introduce you to what the reporters are dancing around. It is called the Misery Index, and rarely if ever you will see it in a paper. But you will see indicators of that index...

Folks they are trying to prepare the very rich for the riots, and this tells me that we have passed the 60%... and are quickly moving into the 70% territory, nationwide. This is when riots break... once you reach 90% or above we are talking of revolution.

They are hard to put together in a working economy, but they are not that hard to reconstruct after the fact... we have gone from 30% MI during the Clinton years, worst case, to doubling and well on its way to the magic numbers of social unrest in four short years. I say, batten down the hatches, as we all know the economy is in shambles.

Now is the time we need leaders, for this social force can be harnessed for good, or for evil...

In the long term, if current trends continue, things are gonna get very ugly indeed.

and we are quickly moving in that darn cute direction...

Boston Harbor is lovely, they tell me, even this time of the year... and a little tea will not do much to the harbor.

;-)

Report: Only four counties where minimum-wage earner can afford one-bedroom rental
By GENARO C. ARMAS - The Associated Press

WASHINGTON - In only four of the nation's 3,066 counties can someone working full-time and earning federal minimum wage afford to pay rent and utilities on a one-bedroom apartment, an advocacy group on low-income housing reported Monday.

A two-bedroom rental is even more of a burden - the typical worker must earn at least $15.37 an hour to pay rent and utilities, the National Low Income Housing Coalition said in its annual "Out of Reach" report. That's nearly three times the federal minimum wage of $5.15 an hour.

"You get pushed into a situation where some necessities don't get paid for" because more salary must be devoted to housing, said Sheila Crowley, the coalition's executive director. "For people on low-wage fixed incomes, that's a chronic way of life."

About 36 million homes in the United States are rented. Roughly 80 percent of renter homes are located in nearly 1,000 counties in which a family must work over 80 hours a week - or more than two full-time jobs - at minimum wage to afford the typical two-bedroom apartment, the coalition said.

The GOP doesn't want to increase the minimum wage, they want to eliminate it.
