Should Howard Dean give better presents to Kerry than he did this year?

I'm sure Howard Dean got Kerry the book "The Daily Show: America (The Book)" knowing all full well that Kerry was going to get a copy from at least 45 people. OK, he probably signed it but there is just no excuse for such behavior.

He could have gotten Kerry a special MeetUp membership or some content management system-based web site that Howard could have gotten for a song from Joe Trippi.

Maybe Kerry got him a better gift. Maybe...you know he got him a better gift. At least it wasn't that damn bong that Dennis gave him.

15. no, it's a serious political tactic
Trying to make personal, irrelevant things like what kind of "business" gifts politicians (who barely know each other) give each other somehow reflect someone's character.

16. Exactly!
Well...not really...just trying to lighten up the humor with my faux bong wit...maybe we can make some light of this incredible year...

19. you even got the Dennis = pot smoking hippie meme in there
Dean's a cheapskate, and Kerry of course, the gentlemen. Look like you covered all the stereotypes!

5. About that bong...
Do you remember the "debate" or forum that was held at one of the colleges, in which some college student asked the candidates if they'd ever smoked?

Dean, Kerry, Edwards.

They were the only ones to admit that they had done so--and the admission was made with a certain sense of humor.

7. Well, it's very possible that others were telling the truth
when they said that they didn't. Not everybody has experimented with drugs. I tend to believe Sharpton in particular, since he was in an environment where it was far less common.

I believed every one of them, actually.

Edit: Except for Carol--she refused to answer the question...;-)

14. Which seemed silly to me
since silence is inevitably interpreted as assent. If things like that must be brought up at all, I would prefer that politicians just be honest about them. None of this "I didn't inhale" or "I don't want children to think that because George Bush does drugs, that means it's cool" or whatever.

13. Gephardt admitted it too
Dennis was running for office by the time he was 21 so it kind of makes sense that he never smoked it. He never drinks beer or alcohol either. He says it should be decriminalized though. :)

11. It is rather cryptic and, you are right, rather funny at that.
I still do not know what the hell it means, but who cares?

18. Zulch is funny that way, and although I don't always agree
with him/her politically, I have grown to like the person and the logic.

Now if I could only do the Lois Kieffer Neidringhaus angle, I'd be very happy.

I can't believe that Rollie's daughter, Lois, did that. My brothers and I are not happy about it.

His name was Roland Spurlock Kieffer. My name is Janet Spurlock Kieffer.

One of his daughters married into the BFFE.

good for him!

WFB's oh-so-subtle hints almost a freakin' decade ago were:
too subtle?

Time to get "up to speed"?

20. Just digging though the old posts I missed
during my excellent adventures in OH.

I think both are giving very genuine smiles to each other in those pictures. Kerry doesn't fake that shit, and I don't imagine Dean does either. So they appear to like each other. I'm glad.

It occured to me when I pondered someone pointing out that Kerry bogarted some of the messages of the other candidates.

Could it be that he was just carrying them forward?
