5. Thats another obstacle....
If the Democratic Party started targeting Santorum for a little of the good old character assassination (like he needs any help... well in this country, I guess he does.), they might just open the gate for Toomey to slip in.

Goddamnit I wish I lived in a blue state (as opposed to swing, that is).

3. It's entirely possible..
He'll be an easier target than Spectre... but for some people even seeing a grown man try to rationalize how homosexual marriage is the same as marrying dogs and humans isn't enough.

I found that while Gore won my county (Lackawanna, only blue county in NEPA) by %25 in 2000, Kerry only won by 13%. I personally feel that Gore's campaign was horrible and Kerry's pretty good, go figure. Hope that doesn't typify one of "trends" the media likes to talk about.

Does anyone know a site where I could find statistics on Santorums 1994 run? Google hath failed me.

4. I think Santorum will run for President in '08.
He will need to get re-elected in '06 first. He will be hard to unseat, but if we can do it, it will hurt his chances in '08.

Otherwise he will be a problem because he would be hard to beat in a key blue state (PA).

9. He'll be VP nominee, Frist is already in line for the GOP nomination
And will probably recieve *'s endorsement. Santorum will be VP so that he can rake in the fundies without being in the spotlight.

19. I said he will RUN for President. I'm sure that Frist will too,
and many others. Between the GOP and Dem primaries I think we will see no less than 15 serious candidates for the office.

I wonder if that is some kind of record?

20. What I mean is that they'll convince him not to run
So that Frist has no real competition. They'll probably toss in some goofballs like Alan Keyes and Pat Buchannan to make it looks like there's an actual primary, but Rove wants Frist and he will get Frist. The ONLY exception might be if McCain runs.

22. McCain is most likely going to run
and I don't think he's going to get Bushie support. I think they've found their man in Frist. I don't like McCain at all, but I also don't think he'd continue with Bush's policies like Frist would.

and with Bush sinking, it may not be too hard.

Time for PA dems to look hard at how Specter's primary race went against the wingnut, and how he ran this year as opposed to prior years.

I don't live there so I'm not looking it up, but methinks he had an easy time beating the wingnut and a tougher time beating the dem.

If true, it bodes well for a good Democratic campaign against Santorum.

An extreme right winger in a moderate-liberal blue state whose popularity ratings keep sinking as he embarasses his constituency with scandal after scandal.

He's our best bet for a pickup. If we can field the right candidate (which shouldn't be too hard), than Santorum will go back to the homophobic and bigoted box from which he came.

like Chris Heinz!

Chris could do it. He is an eloquent speaker and he will remind people of his father. Not to mention that he is a well known figure now because of the Kerry campaign. I'm not a resident of Pennsylvania, but I will do everything in my power to get "man on dog" out of office!

The power of incumbency is one of the strongest powers known in nature. I don't think this guy will lose. Who are the Democrats going to run, Joe Hoeffel again? Joe's star has set.


If Santorum is going to lose, the Democrats have to put up somebody who is really well known and admired in PA. No more no-names, or Santorum wins in a breeze.

Also, in Philadelphia in 2006 there won't be a big turnout in a midterm election like they came out in 2004.

16. We got an incumbent out, based on him trying to hold up the
school board for a pile of money. Ran 3rd in a three way primary.

People don't like it when you cheat school children.

But don't let the scandal die down. Too many forget, move or new people move-in.

It was good that this happened in 2004. It cannot be used as a "they're trying to smear me" issue because it comes up right before the election.

Just don't let it die.

like they did in the last election! Ron Klink, pro-life, pro-gun, pro-Repuke clone, former TV substitute weekend news reader in Pittsburgh market that nobody beyond 50 mis. away ever heard of. Only got the votes of people who vote straight "D" without ever looking at candidates or issues and PA no longer has that many of them.

18. Chris Heinz would be a breath-taking choice.
Since I'm pro-choice, I'm not hogwild about Casey getting the nomination.

Hoeffle's cool, but I'm not sure he can outflank Santorum big right wing machine donors.

There was some talk a few months ago that Chris Matthews of Hardball might take a stab at it.

Looking at the list of senators up for reelection in 06, there doesn't seem to be many vulnerable seats on either side.

Retirements will no doubt change that.
