The Freepers get upset about the use of Eminent Domain
Is this a joke? Do you think any of them realize that this is how GWB built his stadium in Texas? Would their sentiments be the same if they did?

1. They are the biggest bunch of idiots....
ever crammed into one corner of cyberspace....

Their hypocrisy knows no bounds....

For a supposedly "conservative" site, there is nothing conservative about it...

They sparingly use (conserve) what little common sense their God gave them.

4. Their favorite place to shop...
Walmart is very successful at using eminent domain
when they see a corner that needs yet another one
of those wonderful Wallyworld Super Centers.

Wonder how many veterans, lower income families, and
elderly folks have been displaced when they do that?

Before you throw out comparisons to Nazis, you may want to check out how GWBush and company got the land to build the ballpark for the Texas Rangers.

We should have a contest to see how long it takes for one of our post to be deleted on FR. The winner gets crowned king, or whatever.

Bravo to you. That case still burns me up.It's the closest claim Smirk can make as to ever having made a dime in a business deal other than selling off his stock shares one step ahead of bankruptcy and/or the SEC.

The first and only case in Texas of eminent domain being used to strip a property owner of property for a private enterprise. He basically took $500,000 loaned to him and parlayed it into $15,000,000 when he sold it.It gave him the air of a successful businessman.Supposedly a managing owner he was in actuality the equivalent of a greeter at a Las Vegas casino.

I'd see him on TV sitting in the stands and the cameras would pan to him and an announcer would comment, "There's George W. Bush, the son of the president. Wouldn't he make a great governor?"

This guy has been a shill for years. Backed up and propped up to see how far they could take him. They really made a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Poor USA, poor world.

11. Their hypocrisy...
...knows no bounds. And their grasp of reality is nonexistent. They consider themselves the "right kind" of Americans, yet they regularly want to trash the Constitution. They will blather about what a free and perfect democracy we have and fight tooth and nail against counting votes. They'll go on about Nazis and this one man losing his home because he's was a war hero, yet they had no problem trashing John Kerry's service...all while ignoring Mr. AWOL. It boggles the mind.

That's a fair criticism of Bush. Eminent domain is often used unfairly by politicians and their supporters.
For a much more recent example, check out the case of the 103-year-old freight depot, recently bulldozed in Little Rock, that was considered an African-American landmark built by former slaves.

Eminent domain was used to justify that demolition, in order to build a presidential library for a proven sexual predator and alleged rapist.

As I said, there are many examples of misuse of eminent domain.

20. OMG!
They're unbelievable! They turned it into an anti-Clinton discussion?? hahahaha! It's late, but I must mull over a reply for tomorrow. Back in 2000, I read quite a bit about Shrub and his cronies basically stealing that land...as I recall, the homeowners were paid much less than it was worth and then the land was sold to other Shrub pals to open bars, restaurants, etc. I'll have to do a search on all that.

21. I couldn't sleep...
...so I did a little research and posted this over there (it'll probably be nuked by this morning):

To: dead
I hadn't heard about this, so I did a quick google search. The train depot was not destroyed, it was restored and is a part of the 30 acre site.

As for Bush and eminent domain...Bush and his group had a 13 acre neighborhood destroyed after creating an independent authority that claimed eminent domain. This led to the taxpayers then paying $4.2 million for the land and another $191 million to build the stadium itself...with the Rangers only having to contribute about a third of the cost. Kind of a "sports-socialism" as it were. Of course, the new ballpark added greatly to the team's value, and a short time later Bush sold his share of the team, making $15 million on a $600,000 investment. Pretty slick, eh? (if you'll pardon the expression)

25. A historic passenger train station and railroad bridge was kept.
The depot wasn't.

That's all I found out. It appears that there is nothing on the internet about any of these 3 historic things, except for this contreversy.

I also provided them with a couple of facts about the eminent domain/land grab, from this article.

27. Mother Jones has an article
in their latest issue about eminent domain. Scary stuff! If a Democratic candidate made something like this a campaign issue, he or she might pick up some conservative votes. Some conservatives feel the same way that we do when it comes to property rights.

29. I agree
There are many legitimate uses of eminent domain. However, there are also clear abuses of private property rights. One such abuse is when eminent domain isused to transfer property from one private entity to another private entity solely to increase property tax revenues. This originally started to clean up "blighted" areas. It is now used in gentirification to drive out working families.

28. guess they didn't catch that increased use of eminent domain
is a key piece of their beloved's energy policy - they propose that energy companies are given the right of eminent domain for pipelines, powerlines, etc. Wonder what the process for appealing a corporation is - where there are no hearings, no chance of public debate, etc.
