"Where will the 350 million COME from?" wail the talking heads...
How long does it take to spend $350 million in Iraq?

How long does it take to spend $350 million in interest on the national debt?

What percentage income tax increase on people making over $250,000 a year would result in $350 million? (How many zeros after the decimal?)

1. nevermind the fact that foreign aid pays for itself many times over
in goodwill, and in reestablishing foreign markets.

this administration cavalierly runs deficits of, somewhere between $450 and $650 BILLION, and they initially wanted to give only $15 MILLION???

6. Do you think the money will actually make it to Asia?
A good friend of mine was involved with aid the US paid to a country in Africa. He said by the time the morons in the state department finished adding strings to the aid, it would have cost them more money to accept the "goodwill" than it would have to not. It's just like the money Bushie pays to state and local education. It costs more to take the money.

I can't imagine anyone other than a repuke getting away with that type of crap. Imagine telling some homeless guy you're going to donate $1 to him if he does $300 of work around your house. Of course that's wrong, but repuke just don't understand it.

7. How about we remove some Nat'l Guard forces from Iraq?
Edited on Fri Dec-31-04 02:20 PM by intheflow
Move them to Asia to work relief efforts. That way, the regular people who are stuck in *'s dirty war can feel like they're actually doing something constructive and worthwhile, we don't have magically come up with $350M b/c the fund could just be diverted from the already bloated Pentagon budget, and for once we'd look like heros to the rest of the planet--including many Iraqis, no doubt.

"You may say I'm a dreamer...."

9. It's about two days and ten hours worth of Iraq occupation
We're spending about 6 million an hour in Iraq.

Or to put it another way, it's slightly more than the cost of a single fighter jet.

10. It's simple really
Edited on Fri Dec-31-04 02:40 PM by Dyedinthewoolliberal
to understand where the $350 million will come from. * simply added a zero to the $35 million his administration first pledged.
"See, when you add a zero on the end ,the number gets bigger" said pResident * at his imaginary news conference playing in my head.....

edited for spelling and such.

12. It doesn't even matter! Don't they know?
As pointed out by another poster who saw it on Counterpunch, the U.S. never sent the promised aid to Iran after the Bam earthquake.

The newspaper also urged Bush to make good on U.S. relief pledges and noted that U.S. relief for the Bam, Iran earthquake a year ago still has not been delivered.

If "aid" from shrub is only empty promises $350 million is nothing for the talking heads to wail about.
Hell, promise 'em a couple of gazillion if it's only a promise which won't be kept.

14. Don't you see? Money spent on killing Iraqis is well spent...
money spent on aiding people whose lives have been devastated by a natural disaster is a waste of money.
