gasoline prices peaked last October
the highest oil ever has been. i was wondering, could it have been the results of some fat cat trying to affect the election??? think theres anything to that, or am i paranoid???

the prices rose and after the election prices came down, the timing seems abit coincidental to me.

do i need a new tinfoil hat???

1. What fat cat?
Oil commodity is traded on an open market. It's the second largest commodities market (after coffee), so it would be very difficult for anyone to effective corner it or manipulate it. That being said, one could argue, and I would, that the geo-political situation created by Dubya is an attempt to control the oil market. The result, however, is tricky. High oil prices mean big profits for oil companies which means big campaign donations for the Republicans. On the other hand, high oil prices mean high prices at the pump which generally irriates voters. The good news for Dubya was that people inclined to vote for him did not blame him for the high prices at the pump, but rather considered it an unfortunately short-term consequence of the War on Terror.

Thoughts?

2. Well, kybob,
Certainly the Bush Administration deserves credit for lowering oil prices. Billions of dollars of defense spending charged to my kids and grandkids fatcat interest-bearing taxpayer credit cards certainly will do that...in the short term.

And you deserve a great deal of credit for raising this important question on DU. Just think, a few years ago, the Republicans were calling for a Balanced Budget Amendment.

Nothing to see here. Move along, li'l dogie.
