3. Concerns me greatly.
I heard there would be 35,000 U.S. troops on duty during the election in Iraq. I wonder how many (more) will die that day?

4. That's 35,000 extra US troops
Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 09:52 AM by htuttle
The total in Iraq is up around 150,000 US troops and about half a dozen 'coalition' soldiers.

on edit:
Oh, and about 15,000 paid mercenaries, give or take a few thousand.

6. At least we're getting footage of insurgents blowing up our Marines.
This might be a sign that the media is waking up to the stupidity of this catastrophic success.

8. I saw some coverage of a convoy getting hit
I couldn't believe it. It was on MSM. Maybe they are waking up.

7. The thing is....
.... is it only a matter of time before everyone (well mostly, some still think we could have "won" Vietnam, there will always be fools among us) realizes what every military strategist already knows, there is nothing to "win" in Iraq.

The only question now is how long will we waste lives and money. I'm betting several years, sadly.

9. Every time I hear another idiot say "the elections must take place"..
I just want to scream! THERE IS NOBODY THERE TO RUN ANY DAMN ELECTIONS, even if it were possible to have an election in the middle of a war zone!

Of the 35 U.N. officials in Iraq, only four or five are election experts, U.N. officials said. In Afghanistan, which has a similar-size population, the U.N. had 600 international staff, including 266 election experts, for the first democratic poll this month. A major increase in Iraq is unlikely soon because of deteriorating security and the U.S. failure to quickly mobilize Georgian and Fijian troops for a protection force or provide an acceptable alternative, U.S. and U.N. officials said.
