In order for the US to beat THEM...we must become them....
it's the only way to win....Fight fire with fire...not compromising or taking the high ground...The Republicans goal is to destroy us into submission for a very long time....But how do convince the Democratic leadership of this...Right now they remind me of a bunch of punks...Bullies don't compromise they come at you with both guns blazing...well we dems need two guns also....

2. That's IT!!! Become what we despise!
Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 04:08 PM by MercutioATC
Why didn't I think of that?

(I don't have a problem with being more agressive, but the "becoming them" message is all wrong, IMHO)

4. No.
We beat them by simply and forcefully not cooperating with them.

We become the sand in the gears of their machines and they will grind to a halt because they are incapable of honest work themselves.

7. This is not one of those "Abandon Democratic Issues" threads....
We're being urged NOT to compromise. To push OUR agenda as hard as they push theirs. And to oppose theirs.

Just because they may have the votes to pass a measure--why shouldn't our people ask raise as many questions as possible? And why can't ALL the Democrats vote NO?

10. Become the enemy? No thanks! We have some pride.
Please, what kind of advice is this? You don't slide down in the muck, you rise above it, didn't your momma ever teach you that birds of a feather flock together? No thanks, and sorry but this advice stinks, fight yes, but degrade ourselves, NO! NEVER! I think your intent is just worded the wrong way. You have to fight, but you have to walk the walk. No, we will not become them, when we are right & they are wrong.

11. No no no.... that's exactly wrong

We have to be more ourselves. It's all the internalized conservatism, the difficulty bearing and accepting what is really demanded of our side in the way of progress, that is the set of inner obstacles we have to overcome as a group.

All the tactical stuff- outsmarting and outplaying and outmuscling the R's- is not hard at all by comparison. It's all the unwillingness to do all the work, to mentally remain in denial of the extent of the endeavor, to succumb to the temptations of the illusory shortcuts that gets us.

12. We know what you meant,
just that we are not as forceful with our values as they are, and you are right, we all recognize that. If you are thinking of throwing away your democratic values just for the sake of "winning," consider this quote from Howard Dean:

"When you trade your values for the hope of winning, you end up losing AND having no values.....so, you keep losing.

Lol, I had typed "for the hope of sinning"....good thing I proofed it before posting.
