Okay, How do we survive another four years of Bushitler?
Edited on Sat Jan-08-05 07:07 PM by Democrat Dragon
I mean here's what could happen in the next four years:

Nuclear War with North Korea

Protestors will be rounded up into concentration camps

The Gestapo will document every prominent online activist including many DUers

Many Democrats with balls will be either assasinated, framed for muder, or sent to concentrarion camps.

World War III

How can survive this?

P.S Thank you John Kerry for making it possible by running away and caving.

3. Neocons? These people don't deserve "conservative" anywhere in their name.

10. yes and no
Hitler: no
Concentration camps?: if Patriot II is passed the DHS will legally be able to make someone "disappear", i.e. take someone, hold them indefinitely, and never explain why. Put a pretty face on Guantanamo if you like; it's the same thing.
Gestapo: no
Documenting every online activist?: Total information Awareness guarantees it.
WWIII?: If a muslim extremist gets hold of nuke, gets it into the US via an uninspected cargo container, and detonates it in a metropolitan area: you will see social distortion in this country worse than the civil war. Not only will habeas corpus be suspended, the Constitution will be thrown out the window (look at what 9/11 got us--imagine that multiplied by a factor of 30).

5. simple
How do you survive?

Simple. Don't let anything this administration does affect your life. Keep on living like that creep isn't there to begin with but maintain your vision on short and long term goals. Help out in your community and be the best person you can be. Sounds kinda hippie but its my best idea. By being a good person and giving to others, you won't feel so damn pissed off about Bush being up there.

In other words, be the polar opposite of Bush and spread it well.

8. Not letting him affect your life?
Great advice except for that line, but only because it kind of works until you're the one the administration turns on. I've been targeted as a gay man and the future of my (future) family depends on what happens. I'll be lucky if I can ever adopt a child in the future.

14. well...
I understand what you mean. However, what can you do about it at this point? You can't scream at Bush about it but you can work on a local level to try and prevent any more regression in gay/lesbian rights. Anger can help fuel your soul but don't let it consume you to the point where you're blind with rage and don't get anything accomplished. Again, that's just my 2 cents and I'm sure everyone will have their own methods of combating the next 4 years.

9. That would be good...
but apathy doesn't get you anywhere. I think it's important to work so that these gathering threats are dealt with. Maybe they're not possible now, but many see them happening with the way the administration is mismanaging things.

17. It's not apathy...
Edited on Sat Jan-08-05 07:11 PM by Q
...it's the desire for a reality based discussion. While it's true that the Bush administration resembles a fascist regime...it doesn't necessarily follow that there will be 'assassinations' and concentration camps. We will NOT see an exact repeat of the type of brutal dictatorships from the past. The Bushies can achieve many of the same results by simply using their vast propaganda machine and nationalism to keep the people believing lies and saluting the flag as they plunder ours and the world's treasuries and natural resources.

It's fascism...but it's a modern fascism that doesn't need tanks in the street to control the population. Dissent like you see on DU and other places doesn't matter to them because they control the main media outlets...the ones that most Americans watch for their 'news'.

Dissent and protest in America has already been labeled coming from the 'fringe left', 'supporters of terrorism' and nothing more than 'focus groups'. If you want to focus on something equally as dangerous as Bushie fascism...it's the collaborators on the left that enable him to be a virtual dictator.

12. Let's just say the items on your list are hypotheticals.
Edited on Sat Jan-08-05 06:56 PM by Cookie wookie
Kinda like the hypotheticals that Gonzales was playing with at the confirmation hearing. Hypothetically, he said, if the president doesn't think a law is constitutional, hypothetically he could refuse to obey it....and then it could be tested in the courts.

That used to be a crime, but now it could be presidential policy, hypothetically of course.

So, how to survive. How did African Americans do it? That could be a guidebook. Hypothetically some of us who are white and not like so many of our weak, Chamberlain-ian fellow citizens, could get to know what it feels like to be violently oppressed.

How do members of the human race overcome oppression, should it take extreme forms in the U.S.? Nonviolent resistance. That would separate the men and women from the boys and girls. I can't imagine being brave enough. We could use a leader like MLK but for the present he (or she) must be behind the scenes working on secret strategy.

15. The better question is...
Can we live with OURSELVES if we sit back in apathy, letting this administration go on killing innocent (American and Iraqi) lives in an unjust, illegal war?

Can we live with ourselves if we sit back while our civil liberties are slowly dissolved?

Can we live with ourselves if we sit back while future generations are robbed and are forced to grow up without the social security net that we have been relied on for the past 70 years?

Can we live with ourselves if we let this administration represent their twisted representation of American values and morality to the world community?

Can we??
